I just want Valve to get fisted by Galactus for backing them on this. Told Valve support flat-out that I didn't give a fuck (in softer terms) and would take a refund in steambux to spend on more Steam games, still got denied.
I find that, with over-the-limit refunds, you have to do it via a the online helpdesk and genuinely convince the guy on handling the reports. I've refunded several over the limit early access titles that never made up to their promises, without hassle.

But mostly it's the same old "I am a third-tier specialist in field X, therefore I am perfectly and totally knowledgeable about everything." that crops up. Remember, professors are just as human and fallible as anyone else, and plenty promptly forget their critical thinking skills as soon as they stop needing to trot them out. To boot, if someone is teaching low-level undergrad courses most of the time, there's a reason, and that reason is: inexperience, incompetence, lack of ability/interest in more fulfilling work, retired/semi-retired and fucking around; pick one. The best people in any field are mostly going to be doing independent research, working with doctoral candidates, writing articles, going to conferences, &c., not sitting in a lecture hall with thirty to a hundred eighteen and nineteen year old business management/art history/women's studies/creative writing/undecided majors. That's what grad slaves students and assistant professors are for.

I derive some satisfaction from the fact that I was saying NMS would be shit long before it came out, nobody believed me, and then it was indeed shit.

Was reading Xenophon's account of the Greek expedition to Persia under Cyrus, highlights include a moment where one of the Greek commanders gets pelted with stones by barbarian elements of their army and he musters up his hoplites to avenge their murder attempt on his life. Upon seeing the hoplites marching in formation with shields resting on their knees, the barbarians are in a mix of rushing to their weapons or frozen in shock and confusion. Upon seeing the slaughter about to commence, a third Greek commander musters up his hoplites and marches them between the two sides, begging both to calm the fuck down. The commander who was seeking revenge then explains that this is not a simple matter of honour, as the barbarians tried killing him, and so the intervening hoplites await their commander's decision to move aside or stay put. This is the point where Cyrus then shows up with his elite bodyguard and is just all "fucks sakes I leave you alone for 5 minutes, the moment you fucks fight each other is the moment our brother kills us all" (Cyrus is using the Greeks to launch a surprise attack against his brother Atarxerxes to claim the Persian throne after the death of his father). Upon hearing this, the hoplites and barbarians reluctantly realize they're being rather foolish and stand down, shake hands and make amends, so as to avoid the calamity brewing.

Also Xenophon devotes a few lines to which species live around Bablyonia, and which ones are especially delicious. Ostriches apparently are very hard to catch (the whole army could not catch a single one), but if you chase buzzards long enough, they never fly too far and upon growing exhausted provided a very delicious meal. Antelopes are also very similar in taste to venison, and with the right seasoning can be made identical.

Also a little heartwarming moment when their carts get stuck in some mud, the Persian nobles take off their purple garments to go help everyone push the carts out of the mud with haste
