When I spelt that, I was thinking that, when we conquer it, we'll rename the planet Archeon.

Yep. Totally not an accidental misspelling.

Anyways, I'll +1 Silver Scorpions for our elite. Now we just need to mutate some scorpion tails on everyone...

((Alright, well I'll let you guys debate that and whatnot.  I've actually got to go out of town tomorrow, and I'm not taking any easy-to-type-on electronics with me, so an update will probably show up on Monday.))

Kleine and whathisface should check what's behind that false wall!

((I return!  So Colorado has like no good free internet so that was lame.  Anyway, I'll do a writeup and we'll get on with this show in a little bit.))

Kleine held her flame in the hallway that now stood open.  The walls were made of bricks, and she could see supports by the light of her flame, but the end was nowhere in sight.  “What do you make of this?”

   “I’m not quite sure.”

   “Come on, let’s find out.”

“Wait, don’t you want to wait for backup?”

Kleine hefted her crossbow with one hand and raised her eyebrow at him.  “I’m pretty sure I’m all the backup we need.”  With that, she began heading into the hallway.  After a moment of silence, she heard Viktor following her and mumbling under his breath.

“… Don’t have a torch and she’s leaving me here by myself…”  Kleine smiled to herself as she walked down the hallway, her flame lighting the way.

Ustris was in the middle of learning a rather complex part of the ritual when he was tapped lightly on the shoulder.  His eyes snapped open and he looked over to who had interrupted his learning.  It was the same human from earlier, who had thought up the name for their movement, with a small crowd behind him.  “What is it now?”

“Er, sorry boss, but we got a new name for ourselfs…”

“… Go on…”  Ustris was impatient, wanting to get back to the ritual.  It was complex, but it would be worth it if he could turn this rabble into a fighting force.

“Ah, right.  We want to be called the ‘Silver Scorpions.’”  The man puffed himself up, looking really proud.  He even looked over his shoulder and nodded at the small crowd, who nodded and began congratulating themselves.

“… Why did you want to be called this?”  Ustris was willing to call them ‘The Horse’s Face’ so long as they’d let him get back to his ritual.

“Well, you see, Jen over there has a silver locket that she stole on the way out, and Henry got stung by a scorpion about an hour ago.  We thought those words were cool… and, well…”

“Alright, fine, you can be the Silver Scorpions.”  Ustris could hear Jeeves chuckling softly as he placed his face in his hands.  He had forgotten how simple some humans could be, if he didn’t talk to Kleine soon he’d probably go mad.  “Now go get ready for tonight, we’re going in there and I don’t want anyone to be caught unprepared.”

“Sure thing, Boss.  Right away.”  The group scurried away, all chittering away to themselves.  Ustris watched them leave, there seemed to be a new sort of energy behind their step.  They really took pride in their name, or the fact that he approved of the name.  Well, at least it was something to call them.  He settled back into his groove that he had made earlier and prompted Jeeves to continue, night was falling pretty soon and he wanted this to be ready.

“Lass, can we rest for a minute?”  Kleine was surprised by the noise, Viktor hadn’t said anything out loud for the past while, mainly keeping to himself and muttering occasionally.  “I don’t know how you can keep that pace for so long, lass.  You’re gonna leave me in the dust pretty soon.”

“Oh, sorry.  I forget that you guys tire more easily than I do now.  Do you need any water or food?  I brought some along with me.”  She fished a water skin out of her satchel that she carried under her cloak, which she then proffered to Viktor.  Viktor took the skin and began to drink greedily.  “I guess we’ve been walking for quite some time.”

Viktor began choking on the water, waving off her help.  “I’m fine, -hack-, just the way you said that.”  He coughed for a bit, trying to clear his throat.  “We’ve been walking for a couple of hours I’d wager.  Well, you’ve been walking, I’ve been jogging.  I’d guess that we’re probably out of the city by now.”

“That doesn’t exactly explain where this leads to, though.”

“Well, I sort of have an idea of what this tunnel is now.  Can’t be certain until we get to-”

“Do you hear that?”  Kleine had her head cocked.

“The only thing I hear is my own heart in my ears.  Running all this way...”

“I hear voices.”  Kleine hefted her crossbow and let go of her fireball, which dissipated harmlessly.  “Stay here, I’m going to find out what’s going on.”

“Hey now, lass, you can’t just leave me in the dark like this…  Lass?  Are you still here?”

Kleine however was already bounding down the hallway in the direction of the voices.  She knew the hallway was straight and could run without tripping or touching the walls.  Soon she saw a small part of the hallway lit dimly.  She slowed her pace and began approaching it cautiously.  When she was within twenty meters of the area, she found that she could hear the voices almost clearly, the hallway carried them echoing right to her.  She found that she was looking at a door, and light was pouring out from behind it.  After listening to it for a moment, she realized that it wasn’t a Skrellit’s voice that was talking, yelling in fact, nor a humans.  It had a slight hissing sound to it, giving it an eerie quality that she had never heard before.

   What would she do?

OOC:  Well, back in the saddle again, I suppose.  Sorry about that break, got back yesterday and was too tired/wrapped up in XCOM to do any writing.

Begin thinking of things for a level up, gonna happen pretty soon.  So, what next?

(Normally Jeeves can teach them the patterns and how to cast a spell pretty dang fast, they usually spend the time afterwards testing it, it's taken quite a while for Ustris to learn this spell, and it will last for roughly a week at a time on whoever is in it, when it's done anyway.)

Ustris: Power the spell
Kleine: Eavesdrop!

+1, but also, could we have Ustris tell some of the others that have learned some swordfighting to teach those who haven't received any training yet?

Ustris sighed deeply, after almost a complete days’ worth of learning by Jeeves, he had finally figured out the entirety of that spell.  Now if he could just get the components necessary for the spell he could use it at any time.  After charging it with the correct amount of mana of course.  He stood from his groove in the sand and looked around for the ‘Silver Scorpions,’ wondering how preparations had been going.  He began to follow their tracks in the sand and found them not far from his resting spot, training with their weapons.  They had adapted quite nicely to combat, they moved with a vigor completely different than when they had first taken flight into the desert.  He could see lean muscle beginning to develop on some of them, though he knew that wouldn’t last long if he couldn’t find a stable food supply for them soon.

As Ustris entered the small space between the dunes where they were training the humans all stopped their exercises and looked expectantly at Ustris.  “You’re all doing quite well, I must admit.  We’ll be going into the city tonight, I’ll be opening the way through the walls.  We’re a rather large group, so we’re either going to have to split into groups and sneak through or we’re going to have to fight our way there.  When we get to the warehouse, and we will, there will be close to ninety of us in total.  There are a lot of us now, and most of them don’t have the training that any of you do.  I’m going to need a couple of you to train them, in the meantime I’ll be preparing a spell to help all of us.  On the way to the warehouse, I’ll need you to scavenge around, look for anything resembling strength, vitality, speed, or power in general.  We’ll also need supplies for us and the new additions.  I’m sure that we can take care of a patrol if we find one, but we’d have to do it quickly and quietly.  Are there any questions?”

The humans stared back in grim silence, they knew this was going to be difficult, but they were willing to follow him wherever he went.  “Alright then, let’s get to it.”

Kleine inched her way towards the door, it was thick, but she could hear what was being said.  “I’m telling you:  It’sss not worth it.  Our contact isss dead, thanksss to your duel, and no one else will sssell us anything in this town!”

“I’m the captain of thisss sssinking ssship, and what I sssay goesss!”

“Captain, with all ressspect, we’re in the middle of a desssert!”

“Asss long asss you ssstill follow me, it’sss ssstill a ssship!”

Kleine was genuinely confused.  A ship?  Weren’t those large things that floated on the water?  How did anything float in water?  The last time she was in a lot of water she sank like a rock.  What were they talking about?  A contact?  Dead because of a duel?  … She remembered someone saying that the owner of the warehouse that connected to this tunnel had died about a week ago, could that be it?  That would make sense, a Skrellit who would sell these people something…  Possibly the spice from the dunes?  These could possibly be smugglers that had been working with a Skrellit who would sell them the spice, but if that Skrellit had ended up dead then they would have no one who would sell them anymore spice…  What were they still doing here?

“We’re gettin’ that cargo from the warehoussse, and we’re doin’ it tonight.  If there’sss a Ssskrellit, we kill it.”

   “What about humansss?”

“If one isss there, offer it a chanccce to join usss.  Humansss make for wonderful crewmatesss, alwaysss helping out where they're needed.  Asss long asss you pay them anyway.  They’re not likely to rat on usss to the Ssskrellitsss neither.”

OOC:  Ustris will begin the construction and powering of the spell when he reaches the warehouse, I assumed we wanted to use it on the warehouse of people anyway.  That and we don't have the symbolic materials quite yet either.

So Kleine's found a group of interesting people.  What do we do now?

Kleine: Reveal yourself and make a snarky comment, and inquire as to what their problem is.

Ustris:
[I dunno, replace this with your suggestion]

Ooooh, deeeefinitely have Kleine and the humans be waiting for them, instill terror into their hissing hearts! And then be perfectly civil and polite.

Ustris: Well, there's a curfew anyways, so saying small group would be less suspicious is silly - but, they would be harder to notice, and hopefully lead to minimal losses.

((... Did I say suspicious?  I meant less noticeable, whoops, I'll probably fix that in a moment.

Also, wait for them in the room under the warehouse, or meet them here?))

No, you didn't, I was just putting that there in case a new person came along and wanted to suggest being less suspicious.

Also, it he warehouse. That's where they're headed, right? They won't expect a large group of humans to be specifically waiting for them. Especially a group that knows they're there to pick stuff up.

((Yeah, I'm asking at this point because it sounds like Worldmaster wants to meet them here and now.  You guys choose where you want to do this and if we deadlock I'll throw in my vote somewhere.))
