My penis has ceased to be soft. It is very hard now.
Kot and Khorne both begin with K for a reason.

Although I suppose it could be arousal, rather than rageboner.

EDIT: Also that video was pretty damn good. Pretty accurate as to what would actually happen, too. Fire Warriors need support to be effective. So do Guardsmen.

I didn't like that they had 'standard small alien noises' when they were getting killed.
It sounded like someone was putting down a squirrel or something.

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

See above.

Also, it was pretty impressive, and like Rolepgeek said, fucking accurate. Poor guys don't stand a chance at melee range, or without some goddamn support- Where are the markerlights!?

Exactly how much better are SM over your average GM?

I saw some figures earlier in thread, but ...

I know its like a walking light tank, has better reflexes, and has multiple wounds, but how much better for the point cost?

Im not sure if Im saying this right ...

Taking the basic units of SM and IG, how many IGs is a SM?

In tabletop it takes roughly 9 guardsmen to kill a marine with one round of shooting at rapid fire range, though that number is theoretically higher since the marine is likely to have gotten a chance to shoot at least once before hitting that range and is far more likely to kill a guardsman with any given shot. In close combat things get slanted even more in the marine's favor.

In terms of points a marine is a little over 3 guardsmen in points cost, which is quite efficient from the marines perspective for what you're getting, but you have less heavy/special weapons in the same slot and less overall wounds.

I believe that 30 IG make 5 SM, pointswise.

Closer to 15 or 17 IG as I recall. I think guard units start at 50 points for 10, marines are 75 for 5 I think with additional guardsmen being about 4ish points approximately, though you can't take them individually.

Not sure on the exact numbers as I don't own either codex and it's been a while since I read a copy, but I'll go check and do the math properly.

Armor saves and the standard 1 wound on all infantry models makes the ratio a lot lower.

Still takes 18 BS3 lasgun shots on average to kill a marine. That's not great odds for the guardsmen.

Anyway, turns out Space Marine Tacticals are currently 70 points for the first 5 and a basic Platoon Infantry Squad is 50 points for 10 models, a points ratio that works out quite cheerfully in the marines favor, though once you start throwing in weapons like plasma guns and grav guns things swing towards the guardsmen statistically because they can take more such weapons.
