Look at me. I am the canon now.
This. After all, the game is about Your Dudes and always remember they said the all of canon is questionable at best.
PRAY KILL BURN.
Exactly. They're what Space Marines were supposed to be during Great Crusade (also befriending other human governments and incorporating them into Imperium, but those are pretty much extinct now and you know how well it worked when Horus took over Great Crusade), maybe with less GOD-EMPEROR and STABBITY STABBITY STAB.
Waredge 66666 : Dawn Of Edges - Edgestorm
Dark Angels are the Edgy Marines. If there was single loyalist chapter I would accuse od slitting their wirst Emo-style, it would be Dark Angels. I mean, come the fuck on, even their name says "we're edgy". They're truly the edgiest.
YIP YIP YIP
Considering the Space Yiffers and Inquistion mutual history (they waged a fucking all-out war once), it's pretty understandable that they now give no shit about "investigagion", especially considering that in their understanding, it would be murdering loyal civilians because "lel i haz rossete". The guy had luck that he didin't "dissapear" in "Warp".

-Various loud farting noises-

Correct on all counts.
Point I'm making is, Dark Angels seem to be out-emo'd by the blood angels, out renegaded by the minotaurs, out-angsted by the flesh tearers.
They were edgy once, but the grimdark factories are still pumping it out and the whole galaxy is edge now.
They just seem.. Silly. Juvenile.

Plus the "ask nicely or gtfo" attitude doesn't seem limited to the technovikings.
Ultramarines seem to be very centralised around their own sector, for instance.

GRIMDARK FACTORY DOUBLING THE OUTPUT WORK HARDER COMRADES WE HAVE TO MEET THE QUOTAS
Blood Angels kinda have a reason to be edgy, with all their "we sometimes starting to murder shit for no reason and we can't do anything about it", having dead Angel as their Primarch, etc. They're... kinda sad actually (especially considering that their homeworld is besieged by both Tyranids and fuckhuge Khornate army). They also don't really throw the edges into your eyes (they even utilize the edge to gain edge (HUEHUE) in combat), while Dark Angels are edgy because they're edgy and they're so damn edgy they will let you know how edgy they are. Blood Angels are edgy, but they're... edgy in "lighter" way. As in, Blood Angels might be "Edgy Angels", but Dark Angels are "Dark Edges".
Rawbutt Girlyman egoist ego
Ultramarines are pretty much pansies... but seriously speaking they kinda have Tyranid problem (IIRC, the Behemoth hive fleet is the biggest (and each of those is pretty much as big as one Galaxy arm, and actually Behemoth might be bigger than WHOLE Galaxy) one around and it comes straight at Ultramar, while Hydra and Kraken are pretty much flanking them) and Tau are slowly becoming a noticeable force nearby. So they kinda have a bunch of problems of their own, but someetimeees they send out Marines out. IIRC, they have some presence near Eye Of Terror with their non-Codex (WOWWOWOWOWOWOW) Honour Guard.

Making them similar, therefore samey, therefore boring.
It's like how azuremarines and ghey knights (when did this name trashing start) are both "So much better than all the others devoted to their spiritual liege".
Boring.

I have successfully stripped all meaning from the word 'edge'.

I thought the Ultrahmahreens had already dealt with their bug problem and replenished their numbers as well.

Old Greyknights were pretty awesome both on fluff and field, since sure an individual greyknight is awesome but if you used them wrong then a battle cannon shell would wipe out your entire army. They had that outnumbered but not outclassed theme whereas new Greyknights were... Silly. Baby carrier dreadknight silly.
Dark Angels and Blood Angels do differ on tactical doctrine though, and Dark Angel termies look great.

I would like the Imperial Fists more if they weren't almost as brooding as the Angels(both of them). The Pain Glove, the self-loathing crap...I like the idea of siege marines with the determination of a bear trap designed for Carnifexes, but...urgh.

White Scars have almost no history, it feels like, or at least aren't talked about much. They're just kinda there. Pretty cool, but still.

And then there are the Iron Hands. *shrug*

Didn't realize there was already an Ecclesiarchy's Whipping Boy chapter, though. That's...disappointing, but to be expected.

Greyknights seem like they could have been cool, and that I would have liked them if they didn't get fluff-boned. And also stuck mostly to Daemon hunting.

Ulumathi Plasma Siphon bullshit...

Eh. 7th codex states (para) "BT's are the only chapter to believe in the deification of the emperor and worship him as a god, unlike the other chapters who have their own belief systems handed down through the millennia. This gives them rather close ties to the ecclisiarchy, an institution the rest of the chapters treat with varying levels of indifference and scorn"

So I may have exaggerated with the whipping boys.
Though I guess the ecclisiarchy needed a SM fist to compensate for the GK's and deathwatch the other ordos get.

Yep, what I thought. They're loyalist word bearers. Fanatical CC specialists whose modus operandi is spreading the word.

Hm?

No, I was talking about Imperator Vult.

Plus, I thought the Sisters of Battle were the equivalent of the Grey Knights and Deathwatch for the Ecclesiarchy? Sure, they aren't as hyper-elite as the others, but there's a hell of a lot more of them.

Eh, I suppose it's different enough from my Imperial Voices then. Most of them don't like CC, after all.

So is Graham McNeill any good? I was getting free books and I grabbed his Courage and Honor purely on the basis of it having Tau and my having never read a BL book with Tau in it yet.

The only BL books I have read are Horus Heresy novels, in fact, and only like three of those at that.

You can also ease into warhammer literature with some of Cain HERO OF THE IMPERIUM. They have the rigth mix of comedy, action and drama to be fun to read with out being too dense.
