Afaik the 'tech' to make custodes is still around, but they don't use geneseed and guard the technique pretty carefully.
But they age even better than Space Marines do so I don't doubt the original ten thou are still kicking around- so I guess why would they bother?

Psychic deamon rape. That part of webway got fucked by Magnus when he did the thing, IIRC, resulting in a lot of combat, though apart from being a giant Psychic Flaslight and some other stuff, I recall Emperor sits on the throne to not let any of them through anyway, so...
Some Custodes proably died during the various times Terra was actually endangered (The Beast).

Yeah. I mean a substantial number of the Custodes are probbably still around from the Crusade, but fighting a defensive battle against invading demons for 10,000 years is bound to have caused some serious casualties over the millenia.

Call it heresy, call it betrayal, Robute wouldn't need the Ecclisarchy telling him to know it's a "Bad Thing." His last memories would have been of someone trying the exact same thing.

Well I mean he isnt a moron.

But I do think that there would be a period of adjustment.  And the tempers of all the primarchs are supposed to be super serious.  And their pride.  just knowing that the power of the imperium was in the hands of zealots and mere humans and everything was fucked might be a serious thing he has to overcome.

I wonder how well he could really take it.  Or how the inquisitors, ecclisiarchy, or anyone else who would stand to lose by the de-fucking of the galaxy would deal with him.

Let's be honest - it doesn't matter if it makes sense - if GWS wants to bring someone back, they will.

Basically... Which is why I think Horus is alive.

They will probably reveal something like... It was actually a even larger plot and that was either a super duper clone of Horus so realistic it even has his warp signature... OR that they only think they killed Horus.

Or they might do the one thing... and have Horus be the good guy all along and he worked with the Emperor to set up this whole situation and that Horus is still alive... In fact... he IS the Emperor the entire time.

GW have no reason to bring Horus back, he's not even a popular character in setting or among the fanbase. What they're likely to do is give Abaddon a buff or make one of the Daemon Primarchs the new leader of Chaos as an overall faction.
