So am I right in assuming that in regards to gem cutting:

1. The new Autogem starts enabled with the Starter Pack install of DFHack?
2. I can stop using a workflow setup where I start with cutting any old gem and then while setting up a Workflow changing it from the specific gem I selected to using "gem of any type"?

or

3. Autogems cut all gems, yes? So perhaps I should keep on with my current method as at least I can link up a stock pile and more easily prevent gems I do not want cut from being cut?

Thoughts anyone?

It's good to mention which starter pack you're using (I assume it's PE's, but that's not the only one, and there's at least one other distributing DFHack with autogems). That said, DFHack's default configuration does enable autogems, so it's likely that your pack does too.

I haven't tried the workflow technique before, but I assume the two are equivalent. Autogems doesn't allow specifying individual workshops, though, so if that's important, workflow might be a better option for you. It also doesn't allow specific gem controls, and I don't think it takes stockpile links into account, but those could be implemented.

Yes, PE's Starter Pack, I'll start including that in my posts from now on.

Guess I'll just mess with both for a bit yet and see if I find any other differences. Could be Autogems will be fine as long as I forbid what ever gems I want saved. That is of course, if forbidding gems stops them from being cut. Will have to test to make sure. I'd imagine that will be easy to test early game before too many rough gems pile up.

Thanks for the input!

Yes, PE's Starter Pack, I'll start including that in my posts from now on.

The exact version is also often helpful, to allow identification of which version of eg DFHack you're using, whether anything else was added, etc.

heyo, research on unit_personality.T_unk_v4201_1a

unit.personality.unk_v4201_1a is a vector of needs. I would just call it "needs".

needs.unk_0: df.need_type enum (int32) (I'd call it "type")
unk_4: ?? (the only reason this isn't a pull request to df-structures) EDIT: anything's better than nothing
unk_8: how well the need's been fulfilled (int32) (I'd call it "fulfillment" or similar)
unk_c: how much unk_8 will increment per time (times -1; for example, unk_c=20 will make unk_8 go down by 20 every time it goes down) (I'd call it "increment_counter" or something like that)

Oh, also, got a slight bit of poetic form research done:

Poetic form:

anon_1: civ id
anon_2: probably part of an enum governing poem usage, given these results:
0: guides poets during improvised performance
   1: improvised
2: individual poems which can be recited
   3: individual poems
   4: improvised
   5: improvised
   6: individual poems
   7: individual poems
   8: improvised
   9: improvised

It was 1 when I got to it.

anon_5: vector of distinct parts in poetic form.

anon_5.anon_1: Probably part of another enum, these results:

0: couplet
1: couplet
2: brief verse paragraph
3: brief verse paragraph

etc.

wow it's bedtime

Been running the pre-release StarterPack bundle (PyLNP 0.10e, 42.05-r01) on Windows 8, x64.
DF 0.42.05
DFHack 0.42.05-alpha1
Therapist 36.0.0
TWBT mode with PHoebus 16px
Seasonal Saves
Got about 3-4 years of this fortress.

Issues:
=> With .42.05 generated world, only one CrashToDesktop - unable to reproduce on demand. (With pre-.05 generated worlds, repeated CTD. Seemed to be related to cutting a tree down, and then trying to floor over the resulting hole.)
==> AutoGem turned on by default. (Unexpected, non-vanilla behavior)
==> Graphics - Numerous "anomalies"...dwarves are mostly the same shape, just different colors. (Could be user error)
==> Unable to name stock piles. :(

Overall: has been pretty stable for me.

Might be due to TwbT.

How are you trying to rename them?

IIRC...it was from the q menu, over a stockpile. I thought there used to be an n for Name in the DFHack menu choices at the bottom of the screen.

Colors - yes, I suspect user error as well.

I don't remember that option, but there's a ctrl-shift-n hotkey in the default configuration that should work.

What are the current settings for autogem and how are they changes?  My mod uses rough gems as reagents, so I'll need to include instructions on turning this off entirely and/or how to systematically exclude several types of rough gems from automatic cutting.
