A civilization that has no genders
« on: June 06, 2014, 07:17:05 pm »

As the title says, I'm looking for the raws (creature and civ) for a civilization with no genders that still generates at worldgen. I'm hoping to learn from it to develop my own mod.

Consider making them immortal to delay the inevitable?

No, for whatever reason, my civ won't generate unless it has genders. It's possible that if a creature has more than one caste with no gender, it tries to place couples but fails because they have no gender. What I could do, I guess, is have 2 very rare castes called 'forerunners' with genders that die quickly, and the rest genderless immortals. But that'll be my last resort.

you can post the raws, so we can have a look at it, i don't think genderless are not placed (but have not tried entierly genderless civs, i tried tough with both genderless end gendered population, and that placed all sort)

Check out the mod in my sig, then look at creature_demons and entity_demons.

the things i would change: (i haven't made them able to exist without gender, i guess now it is needed, you could make a demon/demoness base creature which then (with an interaction on self) transforms to one of the other castes => you would have genderless creatures for the purpose of the game, but they would still be able to reproduce)

those tags have no use on a creature for civilization:
DIFFICULTY:10
BIOME:SUBTERRANEAN_CHASM
UNDERGROUND_DEPTH:5:5
POPULATION_NUMBER:5:10
CLUSTER_NUMBER:1:5

there are many errors in the log you could watch for them too (in general they indicate useless/not used anymore tags)

Could you post the dang log? People keep complaining about it but nobody actually tells me what errors are coming up.

On the gender thing:

Genderless civs won't gen because they can't reproduce. There is, however, a trick. Create a MALE and FEMALE caste and add the usual tokens to them, and then add [POP_RATIO:0] to those castes, while adding [POP_RATIO:1] (or anything greater than 0) to the genderless caste. POP_RATIO:0 means a caste will never appear in a game, but they are still counted when it comes down to generating civs.

Unfortunately, POP_RATIO:0 isn't valid and defaults to POP_RATIO:100.

Here's your errorlog, from the version of your mod that's up on DFFD:

Spoiler: errorlog (click to show/hide)

I doubt any of these would be a part of the current problem though. If you need help, I've explained most of the errors in the spoiler below. Seems to be minor stuff, except for the body issues with demons.

Done, fixed, corrected, fixed, fixed, removed. You are the best, and I'll fix the demons when I have some more time.

Would it be possible to make a creature both male and female? Or are you trying to keep them from reproducing whatsoever? I have no clue whether it's even possible to have both genders, I haven't tried.

What I'm trying to do is make the creature have no gender, but still generate. I can't fulfill both those conditions at the same time right now.

It is not possible, since gender is stored in a single field which can have one of three different values (1 = male, 0 = female, -1 = no gender).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
