.34.01 was surprisingly bug free, so I don't think this one is going to be too bad.  .34.01 did have the save corrupting bug though, which is pretty bad.  I'll probably wait until one or two bug fix releases myself, which will hopefully avoid any crippling bugs like that.  I need to get my mods working in it anyway, and that'll take time.

How long after each patch does it generally take for mods/tilesets/utilities to catch up? I'm not complaining mind, it might be nice to play some completely vanilla DF for a while, I actually really like the ASCII aesthetic, I'm just too scared to try it ;)

I think it depends on how many memory addresses need to be found again, and considering there was a very loooong time for the DFHack guys to find all kinds of useful addresses I'll bet it's going to take longer than usual.

they will probably find the base ones first so it may be possible for them to have unofficial releases with only the major utilities functioning within a week or so.  But I wouldn't expect everything to more or less be working for a month or more, maybe closer to more depending on how many bug fixing releases happen in that time.

All that talk of bugsmashing got me thinking of this, the part with the school children in particular. The only good bug, is a dead bug!

What's the best way for a new player to help out with bug fixing after the new release?

Using the bug tracker.  Specifically, if you encounter a problem, you can search for an existing report, and if none exists, you can create a new report.  Either way, you can upload a save to http://dffd.wimbli.com/ and post the link at the report.  Saves help the managers confirm the bug, and help Toady fix it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKk4Cq56d1Y is my favorite bug related line, the last bit.

Maybe two weeks to go?  After so long waiting, my brain refuses to acknowledge this reality.  We need to get brain bugs on the Adams brothers so we can read their minds and get a lock on the date.

*HEAVY BREATHING*
...I'm going to postpone my own mod until DF2014 comes out, since it was planned for next week or so.
It shouldn't take TOO long to tweak my stuff to work properly. I won't have to add sweat or tears or anything unless I want to.

Speaking of mods, I wonder how my four-armed cat people will be affected by the combat changes. Can't wait!

perhaps they will have tons of babies, then explode, like another bug related to cats.  Japanese cat bombers.

Well, if they don't naturally I know what I'm modding in next.
