The trees on either side of the stream are coniferous, so the branches are at least 12 feet up. Someone could shimmy up to them, though, if they knew how. Down the stream about 40 feet, it narrows slightly and a tree leans over a bit, bringing its lower boughs within reaching distance of another. It would be a dangerous fall, though, and someone would need to be able to hang by their arms.

HugoLuman debated trying to jump across. He was afraid of what might happen if he fell in, but he was also scared of being left behind. "M' hook 's silver, t' make th' fish safe t' eat, 'f y' folks 'r worried."

"Think I could climb that tree over there," SB says, pointing to the trees farther down the river. "I never was good at long-jumping, anyway."

(You want me to "roll" for that, or do you prefer to gauge your own success?)

(I went on a hike today, with plenty of rock-hopping stream-crossing involved, so for anyone who tries to cross that way, I have a "roll" for you :P)

The duck in Kyle's arms seemed to be less dazed, but no less confused. It started wriggling around, then started trying to crawl into the helmet under his arm.

(Alright. Just tell me, how good would you say you are at climbing trees? Could you hang from a branch?)

(I could, but not for long; I don't have a lot of upper body strength.)

(Right then, here goes my ill-advised rolling system...)

The tree leaning over the stream was a spruce, with a trunk studded with sharp little branch studs. SB found them very uncomfortable, but also helpful footholds. When he made it 12 feet up the slanted tree, where the first real branches stuck out, he lowered himself over the side, scratching his hand in the process, and grabbed the branch.

Now hanging 12 feet up over the middle of the stream, he felt his arms rapidly starting to protest, but he made himself reach up and grab the other tree's branch, swinging over and hugging onto the tree on the other side. Thankfully no longer over the water, he lost his grip as he tried to shimmy down, plunging 10 feet into the underbrush below but suffering only minor cuts and bruises on his arms and legs.

Kyle looks at the duck.
The duck looks back at kyle. "Wond'r which 'n 'f 'em'll snap out 'f 't first."

"Ow, dammit." SB pulled himself gingerly out of the underbrush, wincing slightly at his scrapes and cuts. He quickly ran back to where the others were on the river.
"Well, guys, I made it over. What now?
...Put down the duck, KJ."

(Zanzetkuken, do you want me to roll for you climbing the tree as well?)

HugoLuman looks over at the tree, then back to the rocks. I'll wait for the others to finish crossing first.
