Torture has no practical application except entertainment.

Elves are delicious when properly slain in combat.

Fairly important to me, DF has taught me more about 'alpha state' of game development.  A friend and I are working on a game and I can get really caught up on considering every secondary feature and getting each class just perfect before moving on. I pulled myself back from that a while ago, but reengaging with DF had opened my eyes to hoa much father I could simplify my approach and get us towards completed alpha.

I learned...

What a "thrips" is
That having morals is for the weak and the elven
That elves are jerks
That the worst creature ever is an elephant carp mongoose
That livers are made of magic
That you only need your brain, spinal cord, and one lung to survive
That magical statues bent on mayhem can be taken down by a single person equipped with a really sharp axe.

the most interesting thing in there is that its apparently ok for a human to kill a neutral if there’s no repercussions so as long as the killed person has no family, friends or importance you can go kill them in a back ally somewhere

Actually, the "neutral" refers to things unaffiliated with entities; that is what allows you to not get arrested for killing wild animals.

Ok, so I never realized the connection between this and Dwarf Fortress but this is pretty much adventure mode.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I learned that molten rock is not subject to atmospheric pressure. Also, it is made solely of liquid obsidian.
