Ammo in Bin Bug
« on: May 17, 2014, 09:12:44 am »

So I've just learned that Ammo stored in bins in an ammo stockpile is invisible to my dwarves, which is why my marksdwarf squad thats up on my wall isn't doing anything about the approximately 40 goblins standing at the base of the wall showing my dwarves their d**ks.  How can I get all my ammo OUT of the bins and into the dwarves hands??  I've disallowed bins in all my ammo stockpiles, but it hasn't done much...

I'd try to auto-dump the ammo out of the bins.

Set a new ammo stockpile, with bins disallowed.  Link the old pile to <g>ive to the new one.

Your haulers should take bolts out of the bins, and move them to the new stockpile.

They won't. Haulers are just as bad at taking anything out of bins as marksdorfs.

Best bet is to set up another ammo stockpile nearby with no bins allowed and then forbid ammo from the first pile entirely.  Do not delete the first stockpile until it is empty, though, otherwise they won't ever touch those bins (except to haul them to a bins-allowed ammo stockpile.)

Quantum stockpiling ammo with a minecart is always a good option to save space.

Autodump ~ I wouldn't view as cheaty since you are correcting a bug.

What is auto dump?

<--- Never uses "d" for dump, and doesn't know what it does, other than throwing items in a pit/pond which I never have used before.

Its a DFhack command.   Basicly you designate items for dumping, put the game cursor where you want them and send the command and they magicly teleport to the cursor as if your dwarves had moved the items there the normal way.
