Does an arcana knowledge check include things related to magic n' stuff?  Cause I was thinking of doing a check on Bret's robes to see if I can figure out where he's from/what flavor of magic he uses.

No, an arcana check would be figuring out the magical properties.
Looking at someone's robes to determine origin/specializations/things that are man-made designations would be things like History checks, Nobility checks, or, more likely, some kind of Local Knowledge check.

An Arcana check may tell you if he's wearing enchanted robes, and possibly (If you roll super high) the type of enchantment. But Bret's robes say nothing of Bret himself.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Garenth, realizing that without his spells he is otherwise defenseless, briefly looks around the room for anything he could use as a weapon before trying to find an exit that isn't blocked by Spencer or Bret.

((Could I use the Slight of Hand skill to take off stuff that I've equipped without others noticing?  Cause if so, I can see endless amounts of shenanigans.))

((Updating this instead of my main game because this is a lot less work.))

Spencer, after man-handling the new occupants of the room, leaves the room to find his companions.
The room you're now in looks... exactly the same.
Hmm.
You walk through a different door.
Huh.
You realize that you don't actually have a map of this place, and since you can't see the sky once you leave this room, there's no way to actually align yourself to any direction.
Calling this place a maze is an understatement worthy of the death penalty.

In any case, Spencer walks back into the room, with the three others all standing there, in confusion.
They probably don't have any clearer idea of where they are.

So, to recap.

There is a Paladin, a Cleric, and a pair of Wizards, all utterly lost in a labyrinth that would make a minotaur weep with joy, with the only guiding mark being a massive hole in the wall, heading to the ocean many stories below, and no clue where their companions are.

Realize the futility of trying to leave and sit tight. I'm not going to make any jumps into the ocean anytime soon

"So I guess we're stuck in here together for now..."

Jee wilikers, I think Highmax is near invulnerable, must have been dunked in the river styx like achilles was.

"I think I got a better idea..."

Spencer looks at the others briefly before looking down at the ocean below

"How well can you all swim?"

((I'm not entirely sure what that would be governed by, since there's no Knowledge (Physics) skill.
I'll just assume you somehow are aware of this, for everyone's sake.))

"If we could find some rope, we could cushion the fall with a shorter drop, or even climb our way down. Sadly, I don't have any."
