Rangarök was Yesterday... (Story Driven Suggestion Game)
« on: April 27, 2014, 05:13:32 pm »

Well who would have thought that the world wasn't over after the apocalypse?
I mean no matter which religion you follow if it has an apocalypse earth is a goner. Well at least thats what i thought. Did i mention that i was an Atheist?
Note the "was". You can't really continue to not believe in gods when it starts raining fire and demons are crawling out of the underworks.
It was the whole nine yards and of course the US got hit first. Why is it always the US which gets the first taste of such madness? Gotta ask one of them big men and women up there one day.

In any case it was glorious to watch from the safety of Southern Germany...that is until they crossed the big pond and showed up in France. Fast forward nine months, most nations on the planet are a goner. Apparently the Abrahamic Religions got lucky, God or Allah or Jawhe or whoever sits upon his celestial throne didn't discriminate between them three and sent his angels to pick up his faithful.
Well in any case i got lucky and saw one of them...he took my mother and my grandmother and left the rest of us back to face daemon incursion...thanks a lot for that one. Not that my mother had a choice in staying with us. The bastard or the bitch...i am not even sure which gender "it" was just did some golden lightshow prattled on about "God is good" and " You were chosen" and then he proceeded to force her outside of the house ignoring any questions or protests and up she went. Thats to that.
All in all a good billion people got lucky that way. All the true believers. What about the rest you ask? Are the other religions wrong? Hell how should i know. I heard rumours though...about india. About six armed monstrosities walking the borders of the sub-continent and protecting it against whatever Hell decided was these day in fashion to eat your soul and consign you to eternal suffering.

A few days after the Uplifting incident, the rest of my family and a few friends had holed up in one of the few "secure" communities the government managed to set up, i saw my first demon. And i tell you one thing...those bastards are damn ugly. Next thing i see is the thing forcing its way down my fathers throat. I am still shivering remembering that. I twas the first possession i have seen and certainly not the last. He nearly killed all of us if  not for my axe...my sister never forgave me...

Seeing how secure these settlements were i and a few friends decided it was time to go somewhere more secure, all we knew was rumours but somewhere in the east in china there should be a secure place. And why not? I mean they are all Atheists there right? So if there is no believer there shouldn't be any demons rushing about.
My sister and my brother-in-law stayed behind and honestly i couldn't stand the accusing look that i got everyday anymore anyway.

Another three months ahead we are somewhere in Poland...at least i hope so. The signs stopped being intelligible two and a half months ago.
It is getting late and so the "Lady" grounds to a protesting halt. Jumping out the hatch i immediately walk a few meters away from the Old 38(t), hoping to get away from the rank stench of it's insides, the moping of Scar and generally to take a piss.
We found "The Lady" out in the field one day somewhere in Slovakia. The Driver was desperately trying to drive off imps with a Shovel screaming for his life. That day we lost Walter. But in teh end we saved him. It was our luck that we met somebody who didn't speak english or german. And while i know some swedish and a bit danish i was at a complete loss with whatever that guy spoke. All i got out of him was that his name was Tomasz and that he somehow fixed that ancient tank. Where he got it from i never figured out. three days later he got eaten by a bunch of Possessed. Poor bastard.

In any case here we are. Somewhere in Eastern Europe with no idea where exactly, with an ancient Chechoslovakian Tank, Demons crawling the woods and my group which as most people with an higher education have no idea how to survive. Great.
"HEY Jarl, don't forget to bring something for me too when you come back", that would be Sebastian. He somehow managed to figure out how to drive the damn thing...or rather i couldn't be bothered to learn it. My oldest friend, he is helping out however he can, cooking, driving, taking care of Scar. Scar is the third member of our drastically reduced group. His name was also Sebastian...always tried to establish Scar as his Nickname but it never stuck. Well...it never did till he made aquaintance with the paws of a smaller demon. The damn sod got blinded and never went back to his once cheery nature. He is mostly sulking in the back of the tank and i actually gave up on him. Sebastian however since convinced enough that once the wound completely heals he will go back normal...lets hope so.

It is now slowly growing darker, Sebastian turns on the generator, on the back of the tank, which fuels the floodlights arranged around it.
"Jarl we still need some firewood...could you get some?"

"Jaja, on my way..."

Walking a bit into the copse im finally out of sight and search for the nearest tree to empty my bladder, i don't even get to start before nearly getting blinded by a golden light. Warmth washes over my sodden cold body and it starts getting warm...unbearably so. Shielding my eyes i walk a few steps backwards. I know that feeling...its a bloody angel...

be railroaded.
(Seriously, why would you stop at that point?)

Well if you need an actual action, how about we try to remember what we actually know about these "angels". Or what we heard.
(There is no need to either attack the angel, or specifically attract it's attention. If it's here for us, we'll find out why in a moment. If it's not, there is no need to make enemies of a second supernatural faction)

Just a bit of forward planning. We might want to amass enough power to fight off at least a medium sized hoard and then become a neutral party until further notice. I would suggest going to Sweden and/or Greece as their gods were kind of meddlers and might grant us a boon or something if we handle it right and they exist.

I don't know about that- Germanic gods we much like the Scandinavian ones, and they haven't returned. So I'm guessing it's based more on current religions then historical ones.

Maybe the gods can't leave their godhome without a number of followers. We should start a Greek cult.

The light recedes and i can finally make out a figure...although i still feel unbearably hot...quite uncomfortably i get aware of a few drops of sweat running down my spine.

Son!

Oh Gods above no...

"Mother."

she appears younger...i mean much younger at least 30 years younger. Guess thats what turning an angel does to you...

That is how you greet your mother? Really now. Come and give me a proper hug

"Well i would but i would propably start catching fire quite literally..." i try to approach her but the heat only intensifies.

"Gods be damned can you turn that off?"

Uncomfortable silence.

Uhm i fear not. I am not sure how.

"Yeah of course. What do you want here? Isn't it enough that you left us behind?"

You know as well as i do that i didn't have a choice. It's not like Robert asked me. He just took me...you saw it yourself

"Robert? Seriously...an angel named Robert?"

She ignores the Question, as she always ignores the uncomfortable ones.

Listen, i don't have much time. His attention is currently elsewhere as is that of most of his followers. You have to find a safe place. And i mean somewhere really safe not those isolated villages.

"A Great and where is safe? I heard of something in China..."

No don't go to China. They won't hold for long. Go North to Norway...or East to India.

"And pray tell what might be there...Snow and Holy Cows?"

she seems pained by my dismissals...good. Left us alone in the apocalypse after all.

Other Gods.

i stare at her for a long time. "You are serious."
she only looks back. "You are seriously telling me that all the gods we ever believed in exist?"
Well most of them...

"What about the Greeks? Or the Aztec Gods..or what about Cthulhu...is he real? Oh please don't tell me that Cthulhu is a thi-"

Not now. Go there...you will be save. I have to go.

and just with something akin to a (quite disappointing) "plop", she vanishes. I am completely wet from the sweat of the uncomfortable warmth she emitted, almost as if i had been too long in a sauna. Exhausted i pick up some sticks and wander back to the others.
