Quick mineral quiz
« on: April 21, 2014, 08:15:06 pm »

It's Australia specific, but there are still many questions that a DF player would know and a non-DF Player probably wouldn't. It's always amusing to be reminded of what DF has taught you, so have a go:

The exposition on the answers afterwards is interesting.

Well, I got all the non-Australia related ones right. 70%.

Even if you found a suitable opening, I doubt it would prove all too satisfying. And it might leave some nasty wounds, depending on the moral high ground's geology.

Baffler likes silver, walnut trees, the color green, tanzanite, and dogs for their loyalty. When possible he prefers to consume beef, iced tea, and cornbread. He absolutely detests ticks.

90%.  Woo-hoo!

This basically meant lucky guesses on the Australia-specific ones after question 1.

70%. The only thing I know about the geograhical composition of Australia is that they're uranium rich and iron rich.

80. Got some help from a nearby pal and got some of the Aussie questions wrong, but otherwise I did pretty well.

I made my older brother do it, and he's Australian, and he got 10%. Because he doesn't play Dwarf Fortress. High Fives all around!

Woot, 80%! Got lucky on a couple of the Australia ones though, considering I live in the opposite hemisphere.

70% and yes, df probably upped my score on this considerably from what it would have been had I taken this before.

Speaking of Australian minerals, a new type has been discovered!

http://www.sci-news.com/geology/science-putnisite-new-mineral-australia-01869.html

I came here to post it, and found this thread on a mineral quiz from a site in Australia.

This all falls into the prophecy as told by Armok!  How else could a forum post correlate to such dwarven activities of mining and science?

(I also propose it get included in the game as a light pink mineral, perhaps a lighter shade/high intensity color similar to rose gold?  It is like a quartz, so it would be cool crystaline building material)

The article does have one error in it.  The mineral was obviously named after Putnam for his contributions to the DF community.  They're waiting for an analog of adamantine before naming something after Toady.

If you want to mod this mineral in, I would take chalk or plaster as a starting point since it's about that soft.
