Aim for the bubbly places and throw yet another rock. If nothing happens, use the rope to lower myself into the water
(6) The stone hits the water. Sinking, well, like a stone. As Bergman watches, the bubbles become more and more intense as something rises to the surface. Eventually, it breaches the surface. A corpse covered in a strange plant.
Cut off his other leg, recover my sword.
Now is the time to press the attack, I suppose.

Press the attack, hammer away at the giant while being sure to keep up my defences.
(georgia 6 Gunbar 6 Prisoner 1) Georgia brings her blade to bear against the prisoners leg severing it clean from the rest of his body. The prisoners blood catches a great deal of the room on fire.
Gunbar can feel his blood flowing again as the energy from the battle empowers him. His next strike caves in the prisoners chest and he is left gasping. If you're still interested in recruiting him, now woild probably be the best time to offer.
Try to purchase a breach stone.
your money, unsurprisingly is always good in a thieves guild location. The smugglers seem surprised to see a guard here and do not seem willing to show all of their goods to you, its almost like they are trying to show the pretense of a legitimate business. Of the stones that they seen willing to show, only one resonates with your presence, and the resonance is weak. Any power gained from it would be minimal at best.

Inspect the plant from a distance, see if it resembles what I'm supposed to retrieve

"That stone you've got there is weak. I'm almost inclined to think you're cheating me. So I'll tell you what, you give me that stone for a large discount and I'll treat this like a real business. Might even protect you from some other guards that get confused and think you guys are doing something illegal here. If you don't give me the stone nice and cheap I'll know you guys are trying to cheat people out of money, and I'll have to look into what other illegal activities are taking place. Am I clear?"

Intimidate them to get the stone.

He is still alive and though he's bleeding profusely, he may be able to survive on willpower. People here are like that. If you don't take him, it would be wise to finish him off.

Why indeed it does. Lucky you.

(4) The sumggler seems cowed, though happy to not have to surrender some of his other wares. The stone is yours for a song. All thats left to do is choose when and where you want to absorb its meager power. Something tells you that the smuggler won't be too happy if you try this again.

"Good. Seems to me you men are running a legitimate business, just trying to earn enough money to feed your families. Any complaints must be imagined, people trying to harass you poor businessmen. I'll get out of your way, and make sure other guards do the same."

((What are my options for absorbing the stone? I think I'm the first doing something like this and I want to know the possibilities.))

Consumption of a stone comes with a lot of symbolism. Nearly anything can be done to it, except burning it to help define its effects. Burning it will cause it to release a flame that is excellent for magical weapons.
(( But can he recover his arm and leg? Or are they gone? ))
Finish it off.
((eventually and with some help that you are going to acquire soon he may. Do you still want to kill him?))

You do, but the flames only work on a weapon that is being forged. Not many smiths are comfortable with the resulting fire, but this is a thieves guild hideout. They'll do anything, for a price.

Try to convince a thieves guild member to forge a spear for me using the stone. Don't intimidate them, instead appear friendly to their cause in order to get a discount.

Try to recruit him, if he refuses kill him.

Now then, do you want to reconsider or do I remove the other leg and leave you to rot?
