Hello all, I recently re-discovered this great game after a long break. I never really had delved too much into it, the game felt very complex and had a steep learning curve, so I guess I didn't have the required patience to sit down and follow the quickstart guide at DFWiki quite diligently for at least 1 time to get the minimum fortress up and running.
Since that moment I have now been working on my i think either medium or large world trying to resist the urge of creating a new world from start because I think that's not how the game is supposed to be played. Instead, you are supposed to learn, adapt and to sometimes mess things around in Adventure mode too I think so you can marvel at your Legends-book after each abandoning or retirement. And that's how we get to the topic:
1) As I have been reading the Legends-mode, I noticed that there are some entries which mark a duel between two historical figures. Can those happen either in Fortress mode or Adventurer mode?
2) Is it hardcoded that when a civilization declares a war against you, the cause will always "be debated by scholars" so there is no certainty of it? Or can there be variety like in other entries found from Legends-mode?
3) I finally realized how to make a well after many attempts trying to find an underwater source. If there is no river to get water from though, what other options there are to fill your own underground reservoir relatively quickly while ensuring it doesn't flood and is deep enough (to avoid muddy water)?
4) When sieges eventually come, is it possible for them to end in time if you just seal all the entrances and skulk in the darkest corner of your fortress with your dwarves? In my latest game I was besieged by 32 goblins and 8 jabbers. I was a bit hesitant to send my 10 fully armored dwarves against them (they even had a spearlord) but I somehow managed to drive them away. Is a full defensive stance an option though?
5) I was amazed when I encountered my first titan. Do titans vary in difficulty or was I just lucky because mine had an ant-shaped body and was spitting webs?
I think that's something for start.
I hope I could stick with the game this time long enough to learn some new tricks which is already happening in a way.
