As far as I know, no. It counts as uninhabited/hostile. If there's some way to turn it into a hamlet/fortress, you could, but then you'd have people running around and living in it.

Don't abandon your fortress. Turn it into lair, change to adventurer mode, body-jump into some poor guy and retire. You do get useless extra adventurer but at least you can now retire into your homemade fortress with anyone...

you could also use waypoint and plant markers down on forts to warp yourself there after you're done with missions. though to use this you need to be in travel/sleep mode and use "waypoint -s 'name of the point' " in dfhack.

dfhack will do it, but its real glitchy

How exactly? Like, what do I put into dfhack to make it do the things?

!!BACK UP YOUR SAVE FOLDER FIRST!!

I know how I've done it in the past, though there may be other ways.

1. In Dwarf Fortress, view the unit that you would like to adventure as with the view option.
2. Now go into DFHack and type in 'dfusion'. Of the options that appear, choose 'adventurer tools'.
3. In the new options that appear, select 'change adventurer'.
4. Now type 'mode set' into dfhack, and select 'adventurer mode'.
5. Now go back to Dwarf Fortress, enter the escape menu, and choose to retire.

The game will end as though you have retired an adventurer. You can then go to 'Start Playing', start a game of adventurer mode, and select the character you have chosen to retire in step one. Your fortress will not be considered abandoned, and you will be able to retire there as though it were a regular town.

Though you may want to use the lair command, in case the game decides it wants to scatter all the items in the fort. Additionally, you may find that the inhabitants will randomly wander the entire fort area, including caverns, which can result in random deaths by wildlife/environmental hazards.
