H1Z1, a zombie MMO
« on: April 10, 2014, 09:46:44 pm »

So, yes. H1Z1 seems to be a zombie MMO from Sony that will be (they say) free to play with real-money "special" clothing that hopefully will just be cosmetic.

Is this going to be a DM fest like Day Z or is it actually going to be interesting?

What we need is another zombie game, since game developers rarely make them these days,

Yep, and it's not as if some other multiplayer game popularized the idea of an MMO zombie game.

Currently more useful link with actual information, kinda.

I know that there are tons of zombie related things out right now, but honestly I wouldn't mind a zombie survival thing if it's actually done properly.
I remember when WWII games were 'the rage' and every game that wasn't a WWII game had a WWII mod in it. Just because it has been done to death does not mean it can't be done well, just look at RO:OST... or for a more mainstream example, people loved the hell out of Company of Heroes.
Right? I don't know why game developers haven't jumped at the chance to make games based on this concept.
You can't just list any game that has a zombie in it and call it a survival game. Why isn't Minecraft in that list? It has more 'survival' elements than many of the games you just listed, and it's probably more 'mmo' as well.

EDIT: Some of the best 'zombie survival' experiences I've ever had were with ARMA 2, before Day Z even came out.

You should put a screamer warning somewhere around the link. I opened it in a tab and a few seconds later I nearly yelped and woke my roommate up.

Is there any unique features to this game other then it being an MMO?

There sure aren't enough zombie games around. It's definitely a genre that needs further exploration and development. Also, MMOs

The person supporting regenerating health, when asked why you can see when shot in the eye justified it as 'you put on an eyepatch'. When asked what happens when you are then shot in the other eye, he said that you put an eyepatch on that eye. When asked how you'd be able to see, he said that your first eye would have healed by then.

To quote the developer(?):

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Tl;dr: It's an MMO.  Anything you build will stay there. (build a house, house is just...there, like Rust). Claims they plan to have a map that covers the entire US (eventually, though I've heard that line before). Plans to support multiple types of play (cites farming). Claims massive player interaction, PvP, permadeath, active economy. Intimate interaction with the devs during development (going to have PS2-like roadmap). Seems like a mix of DayZ (zombies, player interaction) and Rust (construction, player interaction) slapped into an MMO.

YAY. Farming? Zombies? My dream of 'Rune Factory: A Harvest Moon Zombie Apocalypse' has been realized! This was billed as a successor to Star Wars Galaxies, so there better be fully realized musician/dancer classes!

Zombies! When will game developers come up with something original?

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go play more original games for the next several hours and go around hitting stuff with sharp things to increase some integers :P
