With that, Carrick claims the mousegirl's soul and puts it into his lantern, before lumbering away.

A fog appears next to Carrick and comes together to form the plague doctor form of Mort.

"Master." Carrick bows down to him. Elizabeth materializes and bows to him too.

Mort waves them off.
 "It seems that the Dulluhan Lord has finally awakened."

"Is he of any concern to you? He cannot subvert the law of the world."

"Not subvert, but simply evade. Departing souls must be allowed to depart."

After some more hand movements, he and Gelid begin to float slightly off the ground, held up by the grass.
