The Vile Halls - Chapter 1: Awakening of Germain

You awaken, slumped against a rough stone wall. Your memories and thoughts are blurry, but slowly come into focus. However, you find that you can remember little. All that you recall is your name, Germain, and a vague name of where you are, the Vile Halls. It's certainly not a comforting name, and you get the feeling that not being here is a priority. Looking around, you appear to be in a prison of some sort. Cells line the walls, most with bars eaten entirely through with rust, but a few still stay sealed. You can't help but notice that the sealed ones are home to human skeletons. You avert your eyes from the corpses, and spot a letter on the ground.

Dear Germain,
Something odd has happened, and you still haven't woken up. The bars on the cell have disintegrated clean through, and I hear screams from somewhere. I'm armed, so don't worry about me. Just try and stay safe. I'm going to figure out what's happening. Find me if you can. If I'm still alive, that is.


So far, this definitely seems like a place you should leave very quickly. You begin to stand up, and it feels like you haven't in ages. With your new vantage point, you spot a blade covered in grime on the ground. You pull on it, and find a gladius. It's weight feels strangely familiar, and you seem to recall how to use it.

Looking around a bit further reveals no other items, but you see that there would appear to be a door at one end of the hallway.

Edit: Check our condition first.

You look over yourself, and check your condition. You're wearing some rather worn and plain leather clothing. It's fairly thick and warm, but not uncomfortably so. You're in good condition physically, save for a small bruise on the left side of your head. You search the rest of the cells that you can reach. This yields a wide, short dagger, and a faded, but still barely readable compass. According to it, the door you spotted earlier is to the east.

You take the letter, wondering who it might be from, and head east. The door glides smoothly, making no noise. You're thankful on this, because on the other side of the door is a large wolf-man. It's sitting hunched over a small camp fire, chewing on an almost-clean hand bone. You see the rest of the skeleton sitting off to the side. He hasn't noticed you, yet.
Although you're preoccupied with the large...thing, you do notice a wooden trap door, and what appears to be a natural cavern to the north.

The wolf-man snarls, and lunges. [17+5 Skill] It's claws rake deep, dealing [5+2 Ferocity] 7 damage. It jumps back, and releases a fell howl, [2+2 Ferocity] but nothing responds. You're badly wounded, and you doubt you can survive another hit.

When it lunges, roll under it and smack it in the nadgers with the gladius. HP or not, anything male is stopped in it's tracks.

The wolf-man lunges again, and you duck and roll to try and get under. [4+5 Skill] vs. [10+2 Skill] You manage to slide under it just barely, [11+1 Reactions] [1+2 Position] and skewer it in the tenders. [17+5 Ferocity] The beast, doubling over in pain, lets out an anguished howl once more. Far in the distance, you hear bestial barks.

We need to kill it and quickly in hopes of slowing down the other wolfmen.

Drive the gladius up through the lower back into the heart and lungs, then escape through the trap door.

You pull the gladius out, and plunge it into the beast's back. [3+2 Skill] [8+3 Position] The thing is badly wounded, but still not dead. Filled with rage and fear, it attacks once more [1+5 Skill] The wolf-man is blinded by his blood, and his lunge goes far. It sounds angrier than ever. Despite having missed you, the beast is now considerably closer to the trap door. You're either going to have to flee in a different direction, or finish off the wolf-man first.
The barking draws closer, but has yet to arrive. It still sounds distant.

Cut it's head off.

Then go through the trap door. Fancy wall running and the like is wont to fail, and we can't take another hit. The roll+nutshot was from desperation.
