Yeah I know that's a terrible idea lets not do it.

Hiding 65 men in wagons as well as our weapons, armor, ammo and supplies  would require a minimum of 20 wagons or more not including all the wagons from the caravan itself.

I doubt we'd find a group with that many wagons to spare who are willing to foot the exspenses and be the bait.
Where do you get these numbers? >.>

It would largely depend on the actual size of the wagons (something we don't even know yet) but I'm POSITIVE you could fit more than FIVE GUYS in an empty sodding wagon. :l And who cares how many there are anyways?

We don't even need to join a caravan! We can just ask for some wagons which we'll get for cheap if not entirely free because we're killing the bandits and then just drive it thru the forest until we get shot at. Why would we load actual goods in the wagons anyway? Maybe some visible goods in at least one to make it more enticing.

I dunno it kind of makes sense those numbers depending on wagon size.

Try laying still for 8-10 hours without moving a muscle then jump up. You'll be one big walking cramp for the next few moments and be lucky if you can stay standing at all let alone fight. You'd need low numbers in each wagon so they could be covered over and still have room enough to move a little bit without it disturbing whatever is covering them.
So only 4-5 to a wagon does make sense because if they can see 65 people in wagons they aren't going to attack.

Also, were mercenaries and as was mentioned before people like us are not well liked. I doubt anybody is going to give us free wagons. They won't trust us enough to do it and we have very limited funding. As it stands a months pay will use up 55 and we only got 50 as a starting payment.

You raise some good points... alright, how about we just Burn the Forest down, forcing the bandits to fight, burn, or flee to never return.

Won't the hunters and duke be pissed off that we just made it EVEN harder to make a living or levy taxes? i mean that's pretty extreme.

I think it was sarcasm. He's saying there isn't a perfect way to do this.

We could just you know, try to track them down. We didn't even give it a shot yet and we know where they attacked in the past. We might be able to find a trail. No sense in complicating things without trying the simple way first.

again we DID make our bread and butter by tracking/scouting. I'm sure we can find those bandit camps.eventually.

Honestly we have a whole month guys it's all good.

+1 3man75 is right, we are scouts and trackers. We should be able to do this in our sleep. These bandits (as far as we know) are made up of common malcontents. They shouldn't be more skilled than we are, at the very least.

When it comes to the actual fight we're on equal terms.  We're more skilled but they know the terrain. But tracking them down? They have no particular skills in this so I doubt they covered there tracks, we shouldn't have much problem finding at least some of the groups.

An we could wait till night fall when their guards down. Not only will they have a lack of skill but surprise in their face also. I bet they enjoy their little "they can't find us now since were in camp" mentality.

Most of them I'm sure but the group that's as big as us feels off to me, when we find them we should be careful.

What do you guys think about trying to recruit them? How we get rid of the bandits wasn't specified and these guys have shown they're willing to fight and to kill to survive. Sounds like the kind of people we could turn into good soldiers if they can be trusted.
They also have experience in ambushing and with bows so they'd fit right in with us, the better bowmen join the crossbows and the rest join the spearmen.

The larger group I doubt we could but some of the smaller groups? I'm sure they'd take the chance if we offered it and they probably have useful information on the other groups. Plus it would also help establish our reputation as fair and honorable people if we showed mercy. Rather then just killing them all.

Good point but as we take out bandit's our fame will grow and more mercs {like the spearman, btw do they have shields?} will join us. We need to have a clean rep if we want to be viable employees for this kingdom.

Well we don't need to advertise it, no need for anybody to know where our new recruits came from and i doubt anybody will ask anyway. No sense in wasting talent when it's presented to us.

That said there probably farmers with weapons nothing more. It's better to have skilled mercenaries then newly dubbed bandit groups/gangs that haven't been in REAL battle before. That said the bigger group is going to be experienced so we definitely need to watch out for them.

Hey look at our spearmen lol? They're no better then farmers themselves except a little better armed. If any of these bandits have experience in ambushing we may as well try to recruit them and take advantage of it.

Our spearmen have no skills at all.
