In my opinion, paintball is much more fun than lasertag - it feels way more realistic and the adrenaline kicks are much more powerful. Lasertag is a slightly odd game, what with the sensor vests (do you guys have those, or do you have some more effective hit detection system?) and the darkness and the smoke. It's fun, but...odd. Not bad odd, but paintball is better, I think.

I play airsoft a lot on weekends. Trying to save up for a new airsoft gun, right now I just have a sawed-off walmart m4.
And a camo-painted tower shield.
This made me feel better, as now I know I'm not the only one to bring a shield to a gun fight.
Those things are the best.
Never played paintball, but I played airsoft (that was when I had the shield). The shield took so many hits that I lost count, but I myself only get hit maybe once the entire time. I also shot one guy in the neck at point-blank range by mistake, but he was one of the SUPER SERIOUS types that had actual armor on, and didn't even acknowledge it. Unlike me, who was in a t-shirt.
Although probably the best part about having a shield is the fact that I'm super flexible with my arms, so I could twist it around me to protect me from any angle without even slowing me down. Although the gun I had was the worse I've ever tried.

Speaking of hardball. Th guns used are actually limited with muzzle velocity of 180 m/s and muzzle energy of 7,5 J. Bulets use are 4,5 mm flat-headed ones:

Of course lack of proper defenses and disregarding safety measures leads to consequences (don't worry, he's alive).

Yes, P-bro, we read the same lurkmore articles. I just rounded up 180 to 200, which is bad, but duh.
Also, the link contains a guy with a bullet in his forehead, for people who are disturbed by that sort of thing. Just in case.

You guys run around with shields when you paintball?

Do they allow you to also shoot? I once used a riot shield so I could lead my team into buildings and whatnot, but I've never seen anyone use them on a open field.

I did, yeah. I was in a small wooded area, so it was outside, and I had a gun. But it was the kind where you have to pull back a lever every time to shoot, and it's kinda hard to do that when you have a shield in your off hand.

Having done paintball a few times I can tell you that being shot in the face hurts, but nothing close to other areas of the anatomy.

Once me and and some friends played airsoft at a birthday party.    I was the most heavily armed, and brought an automatic (Which didn't really hurt much, but made people duck very effectively), an M16 model with the stock broken off, which made it possible to handle like a pistol, and two pistols (Weak like the automatic, but make for some awesome akimbo dual wielding moments).  I also had one of those grenades that had the bottom drilled out of them, and the other team thought it was some kind of airsoft grenade thing.

You are all scary and awesome.
But more physically-painfully scary.
And awesome that you do it right.
But still. :X

Mask on or off? From what I've seen and felt, headshots hurt, but shots to the ears can feel worse.

And then there are nutshots.

I don't see why you guys wouldn't put on at least something. Masked helmet, snow jacket, gloves, jeans, good shoes, athletic cup. Is it like how some people ride a motorcycle on the highway wearing nothing but shorts?

My girlfriend was telling me a while back about this party she was at in Hawaii once, where the hosts had a huge rugged property and a bunch of ATV quad bikes. People paired up, one driver and one gunner sitting backward, just blazing around paintballing each other in the dark. Ambushes, stealthy movement with the lights off, etc. Sounded like a blast.
