Hiring a game artist(small job)
« on: March 13, 2014, 12:01:27 pm »

Hello again folks. I have a talented programmer and a large book of design documents. I don't need a lot of art, but it may take several weeks to get the right feel. I will pay per piece or for the complete contract. I have one person who has applied but their art and technique, while very cool, doesn't really fit the scope. He is more of a concept artist than the sort of digital production artist I need.

To apply for consideration please post one of the following unique pieces by Sunday at midnight GMT. I may decide before that if the perfect candidate comes forward. I am also posting this in other places, so the job may not go to a B12 member, although I prefer it does.

Art work will be a combo of 2d and 2.5d. First I need a vertical menu frame and background that should be inspired by one of the old green or tan wooden weapon crates. You know the type that contain rifles and shredded straw or paper.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
This image will slide up from a button clicked on the bottom of the page and  and hold further menu items.

Another image you may submit is a border design for the UI. I do not have a specific design in mind, but it must fit a general military theme from 1900-2000.

Another option is to design a 64 x 64 scalable cargo plane, transport ship or supply truck. It must look good at 1/4 scale and full scale at a minimum. Bonus points if it looks good at smaller and larger.

A final option is a world map. You can create one from scrap or you can modify an open source one. I want to give it small details to make it pop and stand out. Greens, browns tans and blues. Also please Create some highlighted country borders as an example of your style/work.

Thank you all for considering. Once again, this is my personal project and I am funding it out of my own pocket. I expect the prototype to be finished by May 15 at the latest.

Cheers!

Nothing yet. Looks like I was wise to post it elsewhere too. When I do hire an artist, I will post some samples of their work here since you were curious Anvil.

Hnng, part of me really wants to apply to this, but i frankly doubt i'd be able to fulfill the criteria, and i'm also not sure if my usual cartoony style would fit such a theme at all. I'll consider it, but in any case, good luck!

I would be willing to do the world map portion. Pixel art accepted?

I am unfortunately not looking for pixel art for this project. This title requires a realistic and even slightly futuristic bent to it. I suspect the artist will have to be experienced with photosho and illustrator or similar programs.

Just as a reminder, I am looking for a realistic artistic artist. I am paying well. I need roughly 1 week worth of work about a dozen pieces, mostly UI frames, a map and a few units. All in 2D or 2.5D. Anyone know where I can find someone?

It's clear only pixel artist so far want to help. And you've already seen my mock UI so yeah. Also it might help if you say what kind of game it is and how much you are planning on paying.

The game is under NDA and payment is based on industry standard and weighted for experience. Since these things often require revisions, experienced artists are preferred. I love pixel art but it doesn't fit this game unfortunately. Realistic, militaristic, slightly futuristic is all I can say beyond the other details that I offered in private. The prototype will be finished by May at the latest and then the cat will be out of the bag. I have always used people from B12 whenever I can, but lately I haven't been able to find the people I need. We have a deep talent pool here, some of the best are already busy on other projects and those remaining have very specialized skills that fit niches.

Just a shot in the dark, but I don't see how you would get anyone to apply.

The blurbs prior to this don't exactly fill me with confidence, especially since a cursory Google search shows me this.

I have hired an artist, thanks for the interest. I will post a thread explaining the game once I have some art assets in the project and screenshots.

EDIT: In case you were wondering, he asked for $1000 to create the 26 art assets I needed but I insisted on paying $1250 with a 50% payment at the midway point. If I like his work and he wants to stick around for the rest of the project I will pay him much better and offer a share. I picked up a corporate sponsor who has invested as a sign of good will from our normal working relationship, so I should have no problems finishing the entire game now.
