figuring out a price to sell crafted items is pretty tough to do sometimes, the market cannot be trusted because people are listing items at crazy prices sometimes. The game is new enough that the market is not exactly stable at this point.

Example is cedar planks, which i see on the market for around 5 silver each when their actual going price is around 1-1.5 silver each. These market listings are just sitting and rarely selling, so they do not reflect actual market price.

Sometimes people say that twice NPC store price is a good rule of thumb, but I find this isnt true either, at least for said planks which vendor for 12 copper and Turnbull Mill.

I wonder what could be a good personal tool to help figure this out, perhaps some sort of spreadsheet, I am not the one to make it though.

Maybe it would work on time that each part of the process takes. For example, cedar planks.

first you need to cut the logs, then work them into planks, this is pretty easy to calculate hours on. There are also blades required when milling so you would need to add in value of blades. That means mining ore and fuel, smelting ingots, and the foundry the ingot insto blades, this could also have hours added up.

I guess then a total amount of hours it takes to make any given item can be arrived at, compare that to the actual market rate and you would know how profitable each hour of crafting is.

Anyone have anything like this set up?

Large discovery about building...you don't need to beat the terrain with all the materials, you just need it to average out. This makes working in tough areas ALOT easier.

sort of like clothing vs terrain resistance then

The formula for that would likely be something along the lines of:

(coins/time + coins/energy) / 2 = (acceptable rate of income)

you could ignore the energy factor but I feel its important since you have to rest to recover energy and energy is a limited resource that has to be managed like time. Another possibility is just factoring energy used per item made to determine price

coins/time = (acceptable rate of income)
or
coins/energy = (acceptable rate of income)


so final price is gonna end up being along the lines of (simplified...does not consider raw goods):

Handle
Coins/time
+
Blade
Coins/time
=
Dagger
coins/time

final price = average coins/time x predefined markup


At least thats how I would figure it with the acceptable coin/time rate being something along the lines of 2-4x NPC buy prices or 1/2 - 3/4 the sell price if an NPC sells said item. Obviously mass goods would have a lower predefined markup and more specialized or limited in number goods would have a higher markup. In the end its kinda hard to quantify a simple price for goods because you also have to consider the supply and demand of products...which with an unstable market? Very difficult to predict accurately.

Skill level MUST play a factor.  Otherwise, Rudimentary Dagger and Exceptional Dagger would be the same cost.  Material also increases the skill needed, but I feel material should be its own cost as well...

At this point we really need one of Therian's devs or moderators to give us the formula they use to price all the items to their base NPC values.  Once we have that we can use it as the basis for the market values; because otherwise we're still missing large portions of it.
