((My proposal to fix it the cookie thing, building off kadzars idea but spinning it in a way that retains the whimsy))
There are a tiny variety of Fae called (brownies maybe? Or if something better fits here *shrug*) who tend to live in cities and other areas densly populated by sentients. These fae appear as having a small humanoid body a few inches high, with brownish tan coloring, and white wispy smoke that is exuded by their bodies like an aura. They naturally posess skill at crafting and cooking, and their magic abilities trend torwards imbueing their creations with enchantments. For example, they may create foods that promote longevity and healing, or tools that never wear out, or clothes that keep the wearer at just the right temperature. They are playful but elusive beings who take great measures to avoid being exploited, prefer the company of children to adults if they cannot avoid contact, and exhibit a higher awareness of the values of regular sapients and what some believe to be higher intelligence compared to other fae varieties. If they feel they owe someone a favor, for example after using their home for shelter, they will leave behind one of their creations as a gift. If they are aided in person and establish communication, they will allow the one who aided them to request what sort of item they are gifted. If they feel they have been wronged, they will begin clandestinely sabotaging the belongings and plans of the one who harmed them. It is for this reason that there is a notable variance in opinion on if it is good or bad to have them in your area, as there are instances where one can offend them without knowing why, which spreads a reputation of them being troublemakers. It has been noted by those who have encountered them that they have a peculiar fondness for baked goods.
