So apparently I won't have as much to do as I thought today, and possibly tomorrow. Anyone on? Really wish we had a more consistent method for hooking up besides peeking in #AnCorp, finding a somewhat recognizable name, and hoping they aren't idle.

EDIT: Yep, I have today. Personally I'm just gonna keep using #bay12uo on irc.darkmyst.org when I'm playing or willing to play, so just hop on there if you're looking for a party.

Alas, I did not become Queen after my completely unsupported whimsical run. Instead of going Game of Thrones on this Zappa fellow I'll be content about finally getting a forge.

Pretty much the highlight of today's event (NSFW Warning for language)

Blugh, sorry about the spam, but I've managed to throw down the money for a new guild. The 12th Bay (B12 tag) now exists for those who're interested in An Corp and looking for a home. I've also set up a small base right outside Covetous which is very newbie friendly, possessing an outdoor forge, a loom/wheel, and even a training dummy if you don't want to poke your head in the dungeon nearby. I plan to provide basic armor sets to new members as soon as I can but my blacksmith still has a ways to go before she can make exceptional weapons. I can also friend anyone Being in the guild gives access to the downstair's chest on Helen's Watch, which'll be for communal emergency supplies. I also plan to build a rune library with some helpful locations, although I could probably use some help there myself.

My base is located between the triad of Cove, Minoc, and Vesper. If you're not familiar with UO you can either use the moongates repeatedly to hop around until you get to the one between Vesper and Minoc, or go directly to any of the nearby towns via the game's Help->Stuck menu. You can only use the latter a limited number of times per day however. Map in spoiler.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This Friday I'll be on around 5PM PST and maybe we can do a bootcamp for people who aren't familiar with the game.

If anyone apart from myself and Glowcat is still playing this,
you should join the guild, it makes ingame coordination a lot easier.

I've only logged on once or twice this past week, but I'll join if we can coordinate a time. Unfortunately it looks like my intended stealth build just isn't very good on this server and I'm not enthusiastic about grinding up a new character.

Really should have voted for you in that Minoc election, by the way Glowcat; the winning King only got a single vote. I'm assuming you can't vote for yourself here, otherwise the fault is entirely your own for forgetting to do so :P

I tend to screw up a lot, but I wasn't that absent minded. At least not that day. I figure they also block same IP since I voted on two characters. I knew Minoc was pretty forgettable (have the admins even listed it yet on their Kings/Bonuses list?) but a SINGLE vote is pretty hilarious. Sure, voting turnout is expected to be terrible, yet there's something I find amusing about the fact that he probably only won due to a single guy asking for the Tinkering bonus. Alas, those days were my busiest and I couldn't properly campaign at all.

As mentioned, I'm definitely planning to run tomorrow at 5:00PM PST, though realistically I'll probably be on a lot of the day since my last final is tonight.

For anyone interested: We'll meet up at Minoc's bank - dwarfiest of towns - at the designated time and go romping through a nearby dungeon to give practical advice in-game and provide newbies with some starting gear if possible. We can use the opportunity to explain basic PvP mechanics and strategies, effective ways to build your character, how to come back to life, what to watch out for when looting, etc.

Do we have any of those? I have a just-short-of-GM tailor I could probably finish off in a couple days if there's demand for it.

Honestly, I don't know. I do know there was initially a surge of interest that died down as people tried to learn the game on their own. This was more of an invitation for anybody on the sidelines to get in as a group instead of struggling to adapt to a decades old game (albeit one that's still better than most MMOs on the market - even with all its flaws).

Actually, there is at least one player who managed to hit a million gold a few days ago. I have no clue how but some people are really dedicated to this game and learned all the tricks (or in some cases, exploits). The amount of gold entering the economy shouldn't be too bad. It was going to get released one way or another imo. None of the major Britain candidates seemed very trustworthy.

I wouldn't make it my top priority personally; magic leather armor drops fairly often from low-level mobs.

Yes, part of why I stopped grinding it. Even at near GM I can't make anything better than stuff I'm finding fairly regularly from random trash mobs. With no leather types and apparently no resists bonus from exception quality armor, just the tiny armor rating percentage bonus that isn't even a full integer on most pieces, all in all this looks like a bad server to be a crafter.

Also, anyone have a skilled carpenter? I heard you need one to make a boat from a deed/plan, or something like that (as it seems no one has one to lend).

I have a carpenter, but nowhere near the ability to make boats and I'm unlikely to keep at it. Rate of skillgain for carpentry is terrible like smithing, and wood is a terrible chore to collect because cut boards are ten times as heavy as smelted ingots. With mining you can mine for half an hour, smelt then drop off ingots at the bank. Cutting trees, I've been needing to stop by the bank every couple minutes.

Last I checked IRC I think I remember seeing people selling boats for 10k.

You don't mean African, do you? The one constantly saying things like 'Want to buy a castle, selling my keep', etc? Because the staff have confirmed that he's just trolling everyone and has nowhere near the amount of money he claims.

Actually I'm referring to the keeps that have been placed, which cost nearly 1 million themselves unless I'm reading this incorrectly. One of these keeps do belong to African who made an obscene amount of cash in the first 24 hours. It's not inconceivable that people have made over 1 million even without draining Britain's treasury dry.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, I'm totally on if anybody else is.

EDIT: Holy carp I barely survived a jump by 2 LoD, assisted by two blues. Got one to near death too before his buddies came in with greater heals.

Nobody else showed up, so we went to Despise and made a killing. Both figuratively and as in I was literally killed by an army of trolls, ratmen, and a titan towards the end. A nearby tamer was nice enough to help us recover my body and we swiftly recovered before heading back home.

Story time!

I've recently started a taming focused character, the ranger Troy, and had been attempting to use the passive dungeon gains with various woodland creatures (to little success) when a pair of loinclothed spartan warriors entered my favored hunting ground of Covetous. The pair included the self-proclaimed spartan king himself and one of his lackeys. At first it seemed we'd have a tenable peace, though I was in a poor position as my only pet after a vicious stoneharpy attack was my greywolf Sansa, when the soldier began to attack me as I was fighting a harpy! I attempted to call for Sansa to retreat while holding him off but she was far too lost in her battle against two harpies to notice and they tore her apart without my essential healing arts. Struck by the loss of my favored pet and still reeling from the wounds of, now both, spartan thugs, I sought to fall back and tend to my own wounds too late. A spartan spear pierced my back and the vultures feasted on what meager plunder I had thus far obtained...

Dejected at this terrible loss, my spirit stumbled out of the cave and into the care of a wandering healer who granted me new flesh. I knew that I could not let this crime go unpunished. I WOULD NOT LET IT GO UNPUNISHED! I ran back to my sanctuary nearby and resupplied with the basics I'd need... to build an army. Trawling through the woods I sought worthy allies amongst the brown bears, adequate warriors and far more durable than my preferred lupine companions. Along the way I had to battle Ettins, a rogue harpy, and orcs... but I mustered a squad of the mightiest bears in the region. Yet what manner of army would this be without subordinate officers? To fill the role I chose a noble great hart - whom I dubbed the Hartbroken, after the tragedy he was meant to avenge. My army now complete I returned to the entrance of Covetous to find, at my own great fortune, the foul king of Spartans himself, distracted by other conflicts he had gotten himself dragged into. I could not let this opportunity pass and the order was given suddenly. "CHAAAARGE!" I cried, and my legion spilled forth against the fiend. He appears to have been unprepared without his lackey (and admittedly a lot of his supplies as he had recently died) and victory was ours that day with nary a casualty.

The evil king defeated, we took our rightful spoils in his delicious fishsteaks and returned home briefly to store the gold we had earned on our march. Their service performed admirably, bears and stag were given a cabin on the outskirts of minoc to make their retirement and Troy's adventure had ended. She looked up to the sky, wondering if Sansa was watching her from above... "You have been avenged, Sansa." She thought, slipping a fishsteak from her backpack into her hand before popping it into her mouth. "Yrgh hagh *munch munch* bun avngh'd."

An Corp!
(Seems fitting to ressurect a dead thread for a UO shard named after the ressurect spell)

So, after being online for ~7 months, An Corp was taken down in July, 2014 for rebalancing. Now, 7 months later, it goes back online this Saturday. I haven't been following the rebalancing blogs. I didn't particularly like the chocies made in last year's release, but it might be better now.

Anyone going to play again?

I really like the idea, but looking over the recent FAQ, kind of looks like they're still focusing on exactly the things I least like about UO, and deliberately not using a lot of the things I liked.

If there's a concerted team effort, I'd probably join in, but I think I'm not enthusiastic enough about the server ruleset to lead the charge.
