Took a night of farming the Covetous gazers but I finally managed to scrounge up enough for a small house a small ways outside the dungeon. Only got PK'd once (by mages, I HATE mages), though it was a pretty large haul they got away with. Probably not an ideal place for a home like the ones around the moongates but it's in an area I like (between Vesper and Minoc) and the closest I've ever gotten to my ideal spot in UO.

I'm rather surprised by how tame my experience has been so far. Before I remember dungeons getting PK trains several times a day, but so far I've only seen two murderers. That might just be due to everyone focusing on building their characters and assets though. Pretty lucky since dungeon skill gains have made reaching mid 90s in my combat skills relatively easy.

In-game name is Helen Lancer, if anyone wants to adventure or something.

good skillgains during my power hour

I think the two bonuses don't stack. Related, pretty sure some skills that the ancorp wiki claims don't benefit from dungeon bonuses actually do. Can't confirm, but it's possible every skill does.

I've seen I think four, but none of them have attcked me. Whereas I've lost track of how many times the "oh, you're gray! I'll kill you!" crowd has. The people farming for skill gains don't seem to care, but there's a sizable number of players here who will hunt you down for skinning leftover corpses.

I'm interested. When's good for you? I'm on now.

Also, is it just me or does it seem like crafting is difficult here? Half an hour mining worth of ore gave me only .2 blacksmithing skillgain during power hour yesterday. If that's typical, I wonder if it might be easier to farm skill scrolls for crafting gains.

I plan to hop on again after a quick break.

And yeah, crafting is ridiculous. I think I went through 1000 leather to only gain .. maybe 1 point? Thought about doing the scroll method myself but so far haven't found any craftskill scrolls.

According to the wiki, skill scrolls only drop for your top 7 highest skills, and that are set to gain. i've succesfully managed to force scroll drops of a desired type by toggling gain arrows, but I haven't tested whether it's possible to generte drops for, say...your #10 highest skill by marking everything above it to not gain. Also, apparently getting drops at all requires that the monster be of certain level relative to your highest skill. So, for example, once your highest skill passes a certain threshold, suddenly you'll no longer get any drops at all from monsters that previously you did get drops from, even if those drops aren't related to the skill that pased the threshold.

So it's something if it's going to be done, needs to be done early.

From my experience you still get skill scrolls for ones that haven't exceeded the threshold. That or it's a coincidence that only Parry was dropping for me from Mongbats and such, or Resist Magic scrolls when I picked that up.

I'm gonna see if I can force it by locking all my skills except Blacksmithing then. Will post my results.

EDIT: Killed 8 creatures that normally drop scrolls with all non-crafting non-gathering skills off. Mining in mid 30s, Blacksmithing low 50s, Magery low 50s. No results. Turned Magery back on and killed a bear. Instantly got a scroll. It could just be a really bad case of luck but I think you've gotta do crafting the old-fashion way.

Ok. Good to know, thanks. Incindetally, according to a post on the forums that I've misplaced, apparently GM blacksmithing is tuned to take ~300,000 ingots. Quick check on google, most other servers it's 30-50k. I think I'll be abandoning my blacksmith.

EDIT:
Appears to be confirmed that passing higher skill thresholds doesn't universally stop lower level scrolls for dropping from lower level monsters. No need to lock easy to raise skills to continue getting scrolls for hard to get skills.

For me the thing that makes crafting annoying is that there's nearly no skill where your craftsmanship is considered 'worth' something. E.g, if I buy cloth from a tailor, and then sew it into three exceptional fancy dresses, rather than getting paid for my work (when I sell them to the tailor), I end up with barely any money regained at all from my initial expenditure.

In live, I don't remember making a profit on any crafting skills. In this day and age where probably everyone playing is a hardcore veteran, it's all the more likely that most people will have crafting alts. 300,000 ingots at current prices is 450,000 gold. Even if you play for a year, it's unlikely you'd ever recover that in sales.

Pretty much it's mostly going to be for the convenience. Never having to go shopping for gear, never having to settle for other than what you wanted because that's all you can find, less frustration when you get looted five minutes after replacing something, etc.

I'll keep an eye out for you guys' characters; we can go dungeon farming or something if
you're up for it (though I won't be on for a few hours yet).

I'm actually going to sleep here in a few minutes. Prime playtime for me would have been any time in the past 8 hours. But maybe we can get a few of us together this weekend, definitely.

I'm on. Presently attempting to solo in the dungeon north of Britain. Would be easier if it weren't for the people constnatly running back and forth dragging ogres and orcs all over.

Who's interested in some adventuring?

macroing

I've been trying to macro hiding and stealth, but it's stupidly slow. 6-12 hours a day, power hour and some in-dungeon, and I'm only at 84 and 63. I've GMd these skills of official servers multiple times and I'm fairly certain I could have done it manually faster than this.

Gold drops seem low, too.

Still, hit me up if you're around.

3:30 am here, but I can stick around for a bit. It would be convenient if there were an in-game messaging system. Chat doesn't seem to work at all. At present I'm macroing near one ofthe southern sheep farms on Moonglow island. I would suggest we meet up at west britain bank, but your post was 25 minutes ago and I don't know how often you're checking the thread. Where are you?

I'm in Britain, was just transferring some stuff between characters. What's your ingame name again? I'm Malachai.

Jessica. I'm on my way. Look for the bright pink dress.
