Well, everyone has to start somewhere, right?  You're pretty sure that the first step to cheese making involves milk.  Luckily for you, it seems like one thing this workshop has plenty of is buckets!  Here, this one will do just nicely.

Just gotta shake out some of the dust, aaaand...

There we go!  One bucket and one stool, two of the three things you need to get milk!  The only thing that's missing is the cow.

"Alright, good, you came back.  Now, Mittens - "

"Misty."

"Right, Kristy - I know you want to see the Queen and become a Royal Cheesetaster or whatever, and normally I wouldn't give a flying imp about what some mortal wants to do with their short, miserable life, but seeing as how you're one of my worshipers - one of the ONLY worshipers I have in this place, anyways - I feel some iota of responsibility for your welfare.

"Oh...um, thanks!  You just keep talking, I'm gonna get some milk real quick."

"Right.  Well, I know that it might SEEM like you want to go meet the Queen, and do all that boring stuff you were talking about earlier, but I'm ninety percent certain that won't actually advance my goal of displacing my brother as the God of Worship in this place.  As a matter of fact, the Queen is like, the LAST person you want to go see for that, since she - "

"Oh!"

"Oh yeah that feels good."

"Alright, well...I got the milk, but you kinda...trailed of there.  Are you feeling alright, Miss Cowsea?"

"...hm?  Oh, yeah, great."

"..."

"...well, alright then! Let me know if you remember what it was you wanted to say."

"Mmmmhm.  Sure thing, Shifty."

Alright well...that was a little odd.  But at least you've got your Holy Milk!  Look at you, just blowing through this whole cheese making thing!  You're gonna have that wheel cranked out in no time flat.  What's next?

Anyhoo, Misty: Unlock your dwarven potential and get that cheese made! You're not a human, you don't need some stinkin recipe book or whatever.

Boil the milk, stirring it to keep it from burning. Anything solid-looking... uhh... put it in a pot I think?

I think that's how you make cheese?

Now you add the culture.  By which means the bacterial infested curds carried over from the previous cheese batch.  In other words, utilize your dwarven heritage and such.

Take a small cup or so and fill it with milk. Give said cup to the mouse/rat, tame the animal with the cup of milk! It will be your new pet.
After that, make Cheese the dwarven way (probably: Throw stuff in until it looks like cheese) and give your new pet some of your cheese!

Byyy the way! Cows are grazers. The floor doesn't look like grass/moss, it doesn't even really look like soil! Those dwarves are cheaters, they changed the raws! XD

There's no moss because the cows ate it all,  duh.

Well, that's bad.  Misty: After you do all that other stuff, expand the pasture area so the cows don't die so soon.

By the way, I think the rat is adorable.  Given that vermin spontaneously appear and disappear, I'd love to see it teleporting all over the place in subsequent scenes.  Rat: Appear on top of Misty's hat for no reason.

I thought this took place in a version of DF before grazing, but I could be remembering wrong.

It is a little-known fact that dwarven cheese cultures are stored in the beards, socks and mittens of dwarves.

For those interested, this also explains why the dwarven community feels compelled to make such exhaustive and heroic efforts to protect and preserve the latter two.

Misty: pull some cheese from your beard and--oh wait--welp, that's that I guess.

I thought this took place in a version of DF before grazing, but I could be remembering wrong.

The story began when the current Masterwork Mod was the one based on DF 0.34.  There are pastures and grazing.

But don't be overly strict in trying to stick to the rules of Dwarf Fortress (or Masterwork).  EvictedSaint has already said that he'll bend the rules if needed to suit the story.
