╞══════════════════════════════-ASCENSION-══════════════════════════════╡

The continent of Purnal -- home to the world's largest population of goblins. While goblins may have a dark history from the past, all of that changed when the Space Race began. Goblins began to feel a sense of unity and worked together in the name of science, influencing the creation of the GRA or the Goblin Research Administration. This new organization led to the discoveries of many technologies, including the rocket engine and fuel. The GRA's headquarters are located in a large island south of Purnal, and is where many technologies are researched. The facility includes many sections for various scientific disciplines, a launchpad, and a runway. Inside the GRA, a single goblin dressed in a black suit sits behind a finely detailed desk. Bright white lights illuminate the room's metal flooring and walls, showing various paintings and display cases of scientific achievements.

"M- Mr. Botsum..." a raspy-voiced goblin donned with a white labcoat and square glasses says as he approaches your fine wood desk.
"Yes?" you ask as you look down at the goblin. You are Keg Botsum, the CEO of the GRA and proudly serving.
"W- We uhm, finished the research project up in the Juran mountains..." the goblin says. You adjust your fancy tie and tilt your head.
"And..?" you ask with a bored voice.
"We discovered a large deposit of vis; praecantatio shards, sir." he explains. Ah, vis shards. Vis is the essence of magic and comes in many different aspects. Praecantatio is the main one, and is the aspect of pure magic; quite rare indeed. This vis often comes in the form of crystals in which it's aspect is contained in. These shards are useful for powering many types of magic as well for research purposes.

"Excellent, send a mining expedition to begin the vis extraction," you say with a pleased tone. "I must direct other projects." you then say.

"Will do, sir!" the goblin says with new confidence and snaps a salute. "Ascension will be ours." he says.
"Ascension will be ours." you say in dismissal. You simply watch as the goblin runs off while you spin in your office chair. You roll up to your computer and check if you have any projects to do -- there is none, so you better get your men working on it.

First scientific project?

I'd advise either metalwork or chemistry. Whatever allows us to use those magic crystals, since our rockets can't right now. Surveying isn't that useful right now IMO, and who cares for unmanned flight at this point.

I say Chemistry is our best bet right now.

How do we earn research points exactly? By doing missions? If yes.

Try designing an ICBM small rocket to kill our enemies investigate the upper atmosphere.

On Engine, One Fuel Tanks, whatever instruments we have on top.

Or if he meant how should we get science points then gather some of those praecantatio shards and drop them in a bucket of acid.

I'd say that metalworking is probably more applicable to technological progress (better farming, better industry leading to better commercial, if necessary then better war)

Since goblins won, I vote Unmanned Craft. Also, launch what we can build now, to see what happens.

We should aim to get the planet's first launch, never-mind quality. Maybe a success will spark a useful mission or increased funding.

I agree with Nirur Torir, also lets keep war out for a while, just to have change.

((Is this seriously Thaumcraft 2 + Kerbal Space Program + Dwarf Fortress: The Forum Game? O_o Win.))

What is our curent tech level for thigns seemingly not related to rocketry?

Exactly what magic do we have access to?
