Permadeath is only the name of the project, don't worry (although it does intend to tacke it too).

It's been mostly about MMOs, but I might include other types of games too.

https://github.com/WizardsWorkshop/permadeath

Yesterday I started rewriting it from scratch, so the current readme is not very complete, so read the readme_old too.

-----

Description: Permadeath is only the name of this repo; it aims to discuss many game design problems and their proposed solutions (called measures). This document is divided into subjects, its known problems, and this document's to-be-analysed proposed solutions.

List of problems and might-be solutions(measures) it intends to tackle (measures are marked M, problems P):

On the same lines of measures it's written the problems it is aimed at.

    controlled player entry M
zero resource output M (item inflation (which causes power balance issues))
    power inflation P
    (item) inflation P
permadeath M (power inflation, power balance, item inflation)
full loot M (power inflation, power balance, item inflation)
    cheating P
    bot majority P
    (power) balance P
automated balancing M (power balance, item inflation)
    many-player confirmation M (cheating)
    zero client sharing M (cheating)
controlled resource output M (item inflation)
    distributed game server M (scaling)
asymptote drop rate M (item inflation)
rough progress curve M (power inflation, item inflation)

Bump? I thought you guys would like it, since you're so enthusiastic about games and game design discussion. Maybe it is a little too hard and not friendly? If so I'll try rewriting it again.

So the discussion is all on github? I am new to this idea and am not sure how it works.

If you want attention to your project, don't start out expecting to get any attention at all. Attention is a accumulative thing, that builds on its own if you just keep doing what you do, and do it good.

That said, this discussion has almost nothing on actual game design at all. Just a short introduction, and a overview of a majority problem present in some distributed systems. Perhaps you should write some more topics before calling it a resource for designing games.

Even better stop writing the resource, just make a game instead while documenting design, steps and thoughts. People love reading about actual progress.

I'm not a good enough programmer to understand any of this, but I'm posting to read it later anyway.

Holy crap, why did I not start watching One Punch Man earlier? This is the best thing.
probably figured an autobiography wouldn't be interesting

All of this.

Reading OP got me somewhat interested in this, then I looked and realized there's not much there, certainly not about design or balance. Keep at it.

Yeah, the current rewrite is a lot incomplete. But you can always look at README_old.md for raw content...

I'm actually having lots of things to focus on right now, that's why the rewriting is taking a while.  But you guys are right and I'm sorry for taking so long.

I don't see how to look at the poll results. And it looks like very close minded view about balancing/permadeath. The game (if it has permadeath) needs to be balanced with that in mind. Not like an afterthought or a difficulty setting (unless you are into that kind of thing i guess...)
