This is only marginally relevant, but...

And probably in the wrong place, but oh well.
The Wither boss (from Minecraft) is a three-headed, flying, skeletal abomination that sucks life from any living being and breaks any block it comes into contact with. Two days after it's release, people started locking them in boxes and hitting them with rocks to make fully automatic cobble generators. You tell me this isn't the dwarfiest thing you've ever seen.

Actually the beard is the dwarfiest thing there is. Dwarves themselves are just extensions of the beards.

Explain female dwarves.

I vote the sock for the dwarfiest thing that is not a dwarf itself.

All hair on a dwarf's body is their beard.

Lielac likes adamantine, magnetite, marble, the color olive green, battle axes, cats for their aloofness, dragons for their terrible majesty, women for their beauty, and the Oxford comma for its disambiguating properties. When possible, she prefers to consume pear cider and nectarines. She absolutely detests kobolds.

Cobble?
When it's used as part of the mechanics of a perfect time keeping clock, then we're talking.

The strange happenings that occurred at the moment of creation for your series of worlds are unnatural and wrong.
In other words, what that guy above me said.

All hair on a dwarf's body is their beard.

Code: (Dwarf raw entry) [Select]
...
[BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:FACIAL_HAIR_TISSUE_LAYERS]
...

If it gets its own body detail plan, it isn't properly connected. Thus I reject your statement, beards and facial hair are distinct from the rest of the body hair.

It really depends on your preferred source material.  Tolkein (and thus D&D) dwarven females have beards.  Narnian female dwarves, which aren't even confirmed to exist at all, do not have beards.

Personally, I think I'm delving into the raws before my next worldgen.  It won't be long because in my current fort a Forgotten Beast is having my woefully under-prepared militia for lunch.

-snip-

I have a fourth-edition monster manual volume 1 with dwarves in it that strongly suggests otherwise.

I still like the idea of ladybeards, which I have modded in.

Haven't seen it since Second Edition, so I'll defer to the more recent sighting.

One that I forgot to mention was the Discworld Dwarves.  In that setting, males are females are indistinguishable.
