I meant 'go to the goblin corpse from the minotaur'.
I need to be less confusing.

Page 78:
Go back to the intersection and head straight.
(Right when coming from the room.
Also, sometimes going the same way at different times has different outcomes, so this might.
Hopefully.)
Straight as in when you're coming to the intersection from the room with the bed and whatnot in it, it is to your right side.

Alright...let's see if I get this right.
You want to ignore the minotaur's question, turn around, and loot the goblin.

Page 10: Run
This should be an option for the book, you know.
Indeed.
[19]
If you flee in terror, go to the next page.
You turn around and flee in terror, getting lost. You stop at a fork in the corridors, thinking you smell fresh air!
Unfortunately, you're not sure which way it is...

Ain't no-one rescuing us besides ourselves here...

My respect GWG, this already made my day - in an intellectual manner, that is. I actually loved these kinda books back then, so the nostalgia is most delicious.

I am glad to have met your standards of approval.

If you take both and continue onwards, go to Page 12.
You pick up the creature’s sword and strip off its robe, slipping it on over your clothes and wrinkling your nose at the smell. You head onwards, coming to another fork in the corridor.

...Is it just me, or is the interior of a labyrinth not ideal for having long, detailed descriptions that might make these take up an appreciable amount of the page?

Why, good Sir, I dare to say that the pleasure is all mine. ;3

True enough, some visual descriptions could give quite the depth to the story - establishing the material and craftwork of the labyrinth - while good at first, would be cumbersome and unneccessary to repeat. I would suggest sprinkling some points of notice every now and then, pretty much like the waft of fresh air did, but without any real meaning for the plot. If the waft of air even has one, that is. Doing so also makes such "hints" way more obscure and un-obvious. If that is a good thing, is another question thou.

Else -for this setting - partly decayed walls, astounding growth of lichen, cobwebs, tear and wear of the stones, a change in the used material or craftwork, the odd just-lying-around-item-without-any-(perchance-obvious)-use, some noises, changes in lightning, air or other such things - If one get's creative there always should be something to add. Finding the balance in building / forcing an atmosphere is, as always, a challenge of some sorts. I guess.

(Because doing the later part can obviously have no negative influence whatsoever. Yay! :P)

The biggest part is that it would get monotonous before too long. Still, I'll try to write some more descriptive stuff in.

[11]
If you go left, turn to page 34.
Brandishing your sword, you run down the left passage. You stop when you hear a loud grunting. Turning, you see a massive figure, perhaps thirteen or fourteen feet tall, covered in fur. Its face is a bestial muzzle and its head is framed by a pair of sharp, bovine horns.
“A minotaur,” you mutter to yourself.

Page 11: Sniff, Sniff.

If you try to smell more carefully, go to page 5.
You can't tell which way the fresh air is, but you can smell sulfur from the left-hand branch.

Go to page 11.

Fun. Now to update the Coauthors page.

Turn... right. I'll let Player gamer take the sulfur road.

Also, I remember there being at least one book of this type that had a secret page in it that no other page lead to, so you would only find it if you didn't follow the book's structure, and I think it actually gave the best ending.
Would this book likely have something hidden in it like that?

But really, what a mighty dragon indeed. To have such minions, it should be quite the hot-shot. Pun more or less not intended. Either way, freedom calls us!

On that matter, do we get a malus to such, well, ill-fated choices like these? Because a D20 would still be quite gracious, given the situation;

Probably. But really, is that the biggest plot hole in the CYOA series?

But really, is that the biggest plot hole in the CYOA series?

Well, the question is if we want the game to be coherent within itself, no? I actually read a few books where the choices proved the story to be so incoherent that it was, well, to be polite - disagreeable. Like some haunted castle thingy with - if memory serves - about 7 different unnatural perpretators, none of which existed alongside each other once the conclusion was reached. Stories where a little waiting in your cell would decide if you were kidnapped by the good guys or the evil ones. So yeah, that kind of thing I personally dislike somewhat. Sure enough, I understand that it is used for the sake of plot-variety, but still...

Either that, or the question is geared towards the mechanics not stopping us from meandering through the labyrinth, dodging all the bad events while amassing loot and positive stuff. Hmm.. how about players that have "started" upon a route not being allowed to "jump" to a point in the past untill they get to an ending, or at least not further than 2 choices down from their current one? You could also implement that every Page will only lead to three different ones, making meandering like mentioned above impossible. Either something like that, or you could just "close" pages once you think it is feasible.

... actually, I am somewhat sure by now that you mean the later one. But as I think that my first interpretation does raise a point of notice / interest, I will leave it be.

On another, quite far-fetched note; If the game proves itself to become refined to the point of completion, might there be a flash version or something along these lines in store? Because I would fancy that idea greatly. Just putting the thought out there. But really, If it turns out well enough - and that it would have to do, so no promises just yet - I think the forums could whip up some artwork for it.

True enough. That stuff bugged me a bit, too.

I had intended for people to play like that, but I missed the first people to jump around and didn't want to have a different ruling all of a sudden.

Something like this should be done. I was hoping the Writer Point system would discourage such things, and it seems to be working so far.

You mean a flash version or something of the book? I don't know Flash, so someone else would have to do it, but I'd be glad to help in what ways I could.
Which basically amount to running this game.

If this works out, I intend to refine the system and run it again, hopefully getting a whole series of Bay12 CYOA books of some kind.
