Yeah.  Even the name implies that no real progress or change will ever be reached.  It'll just be a loop of wandering through dungeons, collecting loot, killing a boss, becoming said boss, repeat ad nauseam.  I think it'd be interesting for a little while, but would get boring fairly quickly.
You speak as if you know that for certain and that how it always will be and there will never be anything more. Surely you don't think that's all there will be in that game? You have so far seen only name and one basic outline of one system.

Wasn't ER in the beginning much like that? Promise of power and quick violent death soon afterwards, repeated ad infinitum or until you get ten missions done?

Homunculus seems most like something I could see myself playing (can't really stand player politics that MMWW implies, and not a big fan of random dungeon crawling like Oroboropolis implies - or, for that matter, thematic randomness) as long as it gets some more story (setting mostly, maybe a little plot) to go with that cool concept.

Honestly, I'd like something realistic more than anything. I think ER lost a lot of its setting charm when it started getting incredibly soft with its space magic. When everything's full of magic and shit like that, the setting gets increasingly harder to give a rat's ass about over time.

@Ao
Admittedly, I am drawing a lot of conclusions from one small paragraph for Oro.  It's sort of hard to compare Oro to MMWW otherwise, because a lot more has been said about MMWW, and Perplexicon-like systems have been used by PW much more than Oro's system.  To be honest, I think everyone is drawing conclusions about their preferred system, because we've been given *very* little information about all off them.  Maybe Oro wouldn't really have much random dungeon crawling, and would actually have very specific goals for each outing.  Maybe MMWW wouldn't have any of the magical creativity which made me love Perplexicon.  Maybe Homunculus would only be about survival early on, and people would end up becoming quite powerful after a few months of the game.  Compounding this is the fact that PW likely doesn't know how each game would go--he started ER with no intention of having us rebel, IIRC, but that's the path we took.  He thought we'd have a long drawn out war with the UWM, but we've actually doomed our universe and are now running away.

I think everyone knows where my preference lies.  I love strategy games, and I love magic games.

I suppose I probably prefer Oroboropolis over Homunculus.  Oro does seem like it would be a semi-repetitive dungeon crawl, and I dislike the inherent weirdness that's advertised as part of it ("Cockroash succubi with katanas!"), but at least it seems like it might go somewhere.  Homunculus doesn't sound like we'd have any overarching goal.  I also dislike the fact you're eventually *forced* to die and start over, and the longer you prolong that the harder you make things for everyone else, but I suppose it is a solution to the supervet problem.

I don't entirely see why MMWW would be necessarily more abstract or slower than Oro--is it because MMWW's magic system would add difficulty and complexity?  Or is it because MMWW isn't organized into specific missions, meaning everyone gets to act every turn, rather than just a small subset of the playerbase?

Lastly, I have to ask: Why not both?  Oroboropolis and MMWW seem to have similar settings.  Both have a central city which is safer than the outside world, both have the option to explore outside that city in search of valuables, and both seem fairly cynical and doomed.  Would the systems behind MMWW not work very well as the "off-mission" gameplay for those who aren't actively exploring?  Or would the combat/magic systems of the two games conflict too strongly?
It's because MMWW would have tons of people all active at once. Tons of people all active at once=game goes slow as hell and isn't very detailed. At least if things aren't kept zoomed out most of the time.

Aha!  A vote for oroboropolis is a vote for player segregation!  If you don't want to be locked out of gameplay because of timezones or a mere lapse in attention, if you don't want to spend only half your game time doing anything worthwhile, if you don't want your path to be linear and pre-decided, with no second thoughts allowed, Vote For Mad Max With Wizards!
Apologies--I've been reading a lot of politics recently.

Edit: I went ahead and sent that supervet PM.  Radio's changed the poll, so even if someone already sent one it's probably good to say the poll changed.

True. Xrumph is the type of guy to pretend he cares about other people, but it's really just a front to ensure he doesn't get killed for eating people and/or to maximize his eatings.
