@Paris: I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but I believe the Alien Power Source and the Rainbow Cannon seem a terrific match since the former "cheats" and the latter only needs energy to be a very good weapon. I'll let you know if/when I manage to convince the APS to be a little less misanthropic.

Ok for me. How much was the rocket pack if bought separately later on? 3 to 4 right? Also, how big was the assaultsuit? I remember 'a bit smaller than a battlesuit' but I don't remember it fitting through doors.

Price aftermarket was never decided.  I had thought 3 or 4 was too low, and figured that 8--slightly cheaper than the old price of the jump rocket pack--would be good.  Now the JRP is only three, but that's definitely too low.  Maybe six tokens, so that it isn't a trivial upgrade?

Size of the assaultsuit is notably smaller than a BS.  Something around 32" at the widest point front to back.  It's able to fit through wide doors, it's just really awkward to do so.  PW always avoided giving me exact measurements, which is a good practice really.

Quote from: RC
I'd still need that feature list though (same as for the heavy robobody). Sorry for being an ass about it, but we really can't drop with it if pw doesn't know what the stuff we have does. Maybe just link to a Hep post where it was summarized, so we can just copypaste to wiki? Then you can nicely format it later.

You're not being an ass at all- this is perfectly reasonable.

Next to that, you'll need to find a tester. I'm still trying to get us going ASAP so other people can play again.

I can do that.  Although, what should I do about the MMI?

Quote from: RC
I dunno if I wanna let people use the fund as a personal bank account. It shouldn't exactly hurt our finances, but it might make things slightly more complicated down the line. Hmm. Ask me again after the mission, once you actually might need them and I have a better view on how finances are, ok?

I expected nothing more, this is logical and reasonable.  I can think of other ways to get tokens anyway.

Honestly, it's rather presumptuous to think that I could take back a donstion.  It's just the simplest method for me, if it works.

Quote from: RC
I don't think he meant 'fully replace, battlesuit disappears' and more 'people who have one can replace it'.

You give me too much credit.  I'd prefer that we could completely replace battlesuits, although I know that wouldn't really be feasible.  Much like I used to want everyone becoming a robot; It's far better than the alternative with no downsides, and not doing it could easily get you killed.  Now there's actual disadvantages to robots, but there is none for the AS.

Hey, anyone want a free flying battlemech?  For the Haebi mission?  It's much more resilient than a battlesuit, and you can also get one of Sean's jet magnums (melee plasma weapons) along with it.  It only requires +2 AUX, and you get an MMI along with it.

If you think there are no downsides, then you have a very rosy outlook on PW's benevolence.

Downsides to the AS that immediately come to mind
  • The MMI. PW loves screwing with direct brain hookups. You think he won't take the opportunity with untested tech?
  • Extremely vulnerable to EMP and other malfunctions. Malfunction would completely remove the solider from the battlefield, which is not the case for the battlesuit.
  • Not Field Programmable. This is a serious downside for any Aux specialist. I can't reprogram my brain (safely), and I can't program my own body to stand guard while I investigate a building... with something else?
  • It's not significantly smaller: I know you just claimed it was, but most interactions with PW I saw, he kept saying 'it won't be small enough to make a difference.' I don't know if you got it pushed smaller eventually.

I may also be misunderstanding what exactly it is. All I know for certain is that it's controlled by the MMI, and you intend it to be a battlesuit replacement.

I agree the price should be high enough so that buying separately makes a difference. 6 sounds good, sure.

Assume that if you can find a tester that can use it on time, that person will get your MMI.

Between you wiki pay and whatever he earns on this mission, you should have enough to get him one anyway I hope. But thanks for making my life a little easier at any rate!

Eh, not like we really loose anything from allowing people to buy outdated tech.

And thanks for that list, I'll go plop it on the wiki.

Hey RC, did you get a new forum avatar? Is that Starship Troopers? Looks nice.
Also, I hope my turn gets processed before the briefing so I can give Gilgamesh back.

Yep, that's the one. Figured I'd get a temporary new avatar. Same actor, but more... appropriate for what we'll be doing.
I knew I recognised that from something.

@Joker: we may need to have a last minute brainstorming about the current plan. The improved blackship will mask the team's presence until they leave it and try to gain entrance into the target vessel. The problem is that the team's members will be swarmed upon entry, which is why dividing the team in two groups was proposed. I do see a problem, however, and that is the fact that the Main Computer area is very close to the robot storage. Even if the distraction team spends some time drawing robots to their spot, it's likely there'll still be dozens of murderbots ready to be directed/redirected to pile onto the "Computer Grab" team as soon as the computer realizes they've started breaching the hull so close to it, since its sensors will pick up the second team as it's outside... Maybe see if the new blackship can be adapted with an efficient hull cutter connected to an "injector" airlock so the computer only realizes the Computer Grab team is invading when they've already made their insertion? That feature could be useful for future missions as well.

Another option is having the entire team breach the hallway that takes to the main computer together and then only split up from there (Holdout stays to goop and hold the robots at bay while Computer Grab stays true to its namesake). Advantages: groups can more readily help each other in case of trouble, both groups are close to the MC. Major disadvantages: a single well-placed trap or counter-measure can potentially disable the entire team; potentially more fighting close to the MC. To counter the second problem, the Holdout team can go into the hole first and secure the location before Computer Grab enters.

I think he would, with untested tech.  Not with proven tech.  Since when has a robot person had problems with their braincase?  It's really the same stuff.

Quote from: Kri
Extremely vulnerable to EMP and other malfunctions. Malfunction would completely remove the solider from the battlefield, which is not the case for the battlesuit.

I specifically asked PW about the MMI's vulnerability to EMPs, and it isn't very vulnerable.  Plus it's immune to everything that isn't space magic when you're inside the AS.

Arguably, if you leave then get hit with a powerful EMP, the MMI could be disabled.  I made sure that it wouldn't have an deleterious effect on you though; the thing can be fried and you'll be perfectly fine.  That's way better than a robot, who is essentially instantly killed if their braincase is disabled.

This is one reason I think the MMI is safe, BTW.  Remember the amp specialist, and how he flew around being extremely unsubtle and using brute force tactics, when he could have just killed us all by heating our brains up while watching through cameras?  PW explicitly said he did this because just having lots of people killed off instantly by an unblockable and unpredictable attack was not something he wanted.

An EMP like you're talking about would be an unblockable and unpredictable attack that could easily kill half our players- everyone with a robotic body.

Quote from: Kri
Not Field Programmable. This is a serious downside for any Aux specialist. I can't reprogram my brain (safely), and I can't program my own body to stand guard while I investigate a building... with something else?

What?  Why would you have this impression?  The MMI is purely a different input method; you can program the suit at least as much as before, and probably more.  For example, in the battlesuit you physically control the arms with your hands.  Here, they're entirely controlled by software, and you can just program the input into the computer if you want.  Also, you don't need to type on a keyboard; you can pilot and program the assaultsuit even after both arms have been chopped off.

Quote from: Kri
It's not significantly smaller: I know you just claimed it was, but most interactions with PW I saw, he kept saying 'it won't be small enough to make a difference.' I don't know if you got it pushed smaller eventually.

Eh, decent point.  The MMI reduces the size by a few inches at most, and that's enough for PW to just ignore.  It was supposed to fit through large doors even before the MMI was developed.

Do we need to produce two types, one with the same controls as a BS?  Honestly I dislike the idea of doing that, but it's way better than keeping an entirely different vehicle in the armory.

You know, I'm wondering how that adaptation will work, and if we should try to get a sample of Heabi at its most evolved form, in order to discover super resistant organic armors...
I was actually already planning to get a few Haebi corpses as souvenirs. Maybe even take a few live ones, if I find any particularly weak ones that can fit in one of those big sample containers I've had in my bag of crap since the AP mission.

Seriously people, if it won't hurt the team in any way, take everything you can and put it in a bag, even if it's just a spoon. It might save your life one day. Or just give you an interesting role-playing opportunity.

Well, remember that if this Haebi planet is so far somewhat undisturbed and the planet it's on doesn't contain any deadly predators that have tried to kill the haebi, then the first group of haebi 'soldiers' we meet will probably suck pretty badly.

In that case you might as well get some of the haebi flesh from the ground, Haebi isn't an individual, that's the name for the fungus, the soldier are just threaded haebi with certain evoloutions.
