It's kind of unique currency. Once in life you can buy something extraoridinary with it. As far as I know only Doctor accepts souls as a method of payment, but maybe piecewise can introduce other people to diminish his monopoly.

Anyway, he doesn't look that interested in accepting other to his ultra secret Scientist club. Doesn't even need test subjects (which raises a few questions). So the only thing he could be interested was something extraordinary that you have and they might want to poke. Like lightning hands or an alien parasite. Of course, that is more than likely to get you dissected. So you're probably better off just going to the doctor, since he wants to keep his toys working long enough to play with them.
