Sambo clicks his laser rifle up a notch of power and shoots Cecil with it (lowish power, wide dispersion) , in long but controlled bursts. He sees what happens, then clicks it up to high power and gets ready to run like hell. Of Cecil attacks Sambo, he turns on his kinetic amp and fights the boxing match of his life.

But think of the looting. It will be like a game of cat and mouse, with the still alive team-members trying to avoid the eater of cold, while trying to knick Sambo's valuables off his corpse.

There's a laser rifle with a generator, a gauss rifle, 2 gauss rifle clips, a civvy gauss pistol with 13 rounds, and a kinetic amp amongst it all. Sambo is going to explode like a corpse-loot pinata.

Simus only wanted it on me while I was on Hephaestus. She could care less what I do to other planets, but Heph was her playground.

I actually suspect that the alien not being kept warm was intentional on Piecewise's part due to a high threshhold. But then again... eh. Hard to tell. Either way, we have some major stuff to deal with.

I'd say Cecil getting hit with a heat-gun and a laser rifle at 40% "shotgun'yness" is about as high a threshold as we can go without just melting him.

Of course, we might both miss or overshoot, with hilarious consequences.

M18 is the fun mission. As for the messups, we can just blame it on the person who decided to take leadership, since they didn't prevent it.  Leading a huge group of ARM members isn't something you volunteer for.
