Amps and manipulators work by some of magic space voodoo, right? (I'm open to a better explanation, but this is sci-fi, after all). But the forces they exert are completely mundane: heat generated by a microwave amp or manip isn't any different from normal heat, for example. Is there any way to attempt to protect yourself from amps/manips short of trying to mitigate the forces they exert? How do you deal with things that are difficult to counteract, like being lifted off the ground or having your head squashed like a grape?

Yep.  Alien space voodoo.  There's a reason we call it "Space Magic".

The most obvious and effective way to protect yourself from space magic is to have an automanipulator constantly keeping you at some safe state.  For example, a microwave autpmanip keeping you at a certain temperature, or a grav automanip keeping you at a certain gravitational weight.  It'd be somewhat trickier to do with vector amps, but I imagine you could buy something similar.

A more difficult and risky method is to be a space wizard yourself, and just directly counter an enemy's space magic.  During the taking of Hephaestus, Miyamoto (Giant space archmage) fought a UWM Amp specialist (Space Doctor X), and the wizard would counter all his heat effects with cold and vice-versa.

All things considered, this assault is going kinda poorly.  Both big ships we took are screwed.  Of the three smaller ones, one is completely destroyed, one is not badly damaged but the damage can potentially destroy the ship, and only the third has minor damage.  Steve's big cannon is about to ruin the other ships.

At best, we end up with two small ships.

Better than nothing and possible planetary damage.

Although, depending on what happens next on the command centre, there might be some of that. To quote Zee Captain, those on Hephaestus "better dig your heels in".

I dunno, main objective here was to destroy the ships so they couldn't box us in. Any extra ships we got is just icing on the cake. I mean, really, we did a boarding action. In space! I'm surprised it went so well.

It has a bit of armor, but one less-obvious feature of its protection is its +1 bonus to Con (and Dex) rolls.

The MkIII grants +1 bonus to Str. and Dex. (Dodging), though the strength bonus can be lost in case you add too much crap to your suit. Turning on the Enhanced Movement Mode grants a further +1 to Dex. and Str. since both the exoskeleton and rockets start to operate better and consume much more energy/fuel.

@Hapah: Since you're thinking W40k Astartes or SC Marines, I guess you either buy a MkIII and customize it as cash flows in, or you check for the price of suits not in the armory's list. You can do that via Tinker or ask the AM.

Turns out we're both wrong!  (My problem was I was thinking Con as in Constitution which is actually End this game, but...)

13   Mk III suit
   Ammo: Rocket pods good for 20 kilometers.
   Range:NA
   Special: +1 to strength and endurance rolls. +1 to movement rolls.
   Description:Take a Mk II suit, equip it with an exoskeleton strength augmentation system, a dozen different small maneuvering rockets and two large articulated “wing” rocket pods and you've got the Mk III suit. The pinnacle of  traditional suit design, it grants the user enhanced strength, endurance and speed, and allows them to fly above the battlefield with a lnvel of maneuverability that outshines even a rocket bike.

It's not a straight Dex bonus, but I assume the "movement" rolls are Dex rolls that involve dodging, among other things.
