Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

Fear tactics? Assuming they can orbitally bombard non-factory areas with lasers they would be able to scare the majority of population into submission.

Spoiler: Copter talk (click to show/hide)

-------
Good idea:
Get scout eye.  Get cutting laser.  Fly scout eye around corner, video enemies.  Shoot through walls.

Why has nobody done this?

Because they will shoot you in an open area. Might work for breaching though.

Also, copters are pretty shit if all it takes is either a LESHO shot or enough firepower from the heavier laser weapons to shoot them down.

Know what someone needs to invent? That Chemrail thing from Elysium.
Hell, even that airburst ak47 would be awesome.

Do we have precision orbital laser strikes? Build a relay or two and drag them with us on missions, so we get some bonus orbital support.

We've had precision orbital lasers for a while now. Except using up the Sword's resources on anything but the most extreme circumstances is probably ill advised.

Also, waiting for meeting start. Seems like there'll be a bunch more people attending after all.

MkI suits can barely protect their owners from slingshot-propelled pebbles but they surely can keep you safe from most contaminants. Remember the sharkmist disease was transmitted through the air?

Also, those are the world's regular defenders. Their forces are most likely geared towards tried-and-proven traditional warfare.
So. Boarding party-theory is a go in lieu of any other counter-attack or preemptive strike?

We're going to want to take their ships regardless. We'll need a fleet of our own at some point one way or another. But we don't have much that can just up and meet them in orbit. We'll need them to go up to us and get blasted by our defenses first, and get as many of their troops as possible killed where we can field excessive firepower.

Taking a ship will be difficult if its complement of three thousand ground assault troops is still intact and roaming the corridors.

So it was like a binary search, except the question is "Has the input been brutally murdered?", and it only ever returns True.

Lukas already has a particle cannon built into him. So the tech is not unknown.

Plus you'll need to generate those terajoules of energy first, which means it's going to take a long-ass time to reload, and/or won't be able to fit on a shuttle.

Also, space is hot. Not cold.

Returning to the matter of an Artee versus a quadcopter drone for a moment, I remembered that there's another point that needs to be addressed: an Artee is not a primarily combat unit. Where a quadcopter gunship could be a great weapons platform when done right, you can't expect it to carry equipment the team needs, you can't expect it to have the ability to treat wounded or be of any help to the team bar shooting at enemies (and being a hell of a noisemaker. seriously, any of you ever heard a ducted fan flyer at work?). The Artee is a support unit, so it has a role beyond a simple gunnerbot. The two projects would never be mutually exclusive.

Would it be feasible to have a tank with a twin heavy gauss cannon, with several fully-automatic gauss machineguns?
