New World of Darkness RPG: The Heist
« on: January 23, 2014, 02:37:40 pm »

The (New) World of Darkness is a tabletop roleplay game by White Wolf games, though it could be called urban fantasy in certain ways. It is focused on supernatural creatures, but it can be played mortals only. It uses a d10 system, and puts an emphasis on roleplaying and storytelling.

I've been wanting to run a WoD chronicle for some time, and I have experience doing IRC RPs in other systems.

Here's the base rules for this chronicle, if it happens.

Rules
1: I'm new to the WoD, so I'm just going to start with a Mortals chronicle. We might have more chronicles with supernatural elements.
2: I haven't read the update to the base game, so we're just going with the original sourcebook.
3: I'm looking for four people, though I could go with three or five. Other people can run games in the same topic.

One thing I am uncertain about is whether to run it in IRC (Where the majority of my experience in RPing comes from) or to run this in Roll20 (Which seems to be the preferred method). If you're interested, please do vote on which one you would be more interested in.

So, who would be interested in this?

Posting for interest.(I prefer IRC)

So, what can of game do you have in mind? Non-supernatural is fine, but i would like to know location and a certain idea of the range of apropiate characters.

żAny chance we start as humans and transform later?

I was thinking of having a chronicle set in England (I live in Ireland but more people know about what England is like), probably a criminal thing based around a heist. There'd be supernatural stuff, but I think the chronicles are going to be less "series of adventures that last a long time" and more "individual stories that don't take incredibly long", so in later chronicles there might be some transformation. Don't worry, you can have characters continue over chronicles as well.

A heist based chronicle seems nice. I will have to start to make a character then.

Hmm...any chance you could link the sourcebook? Or is that a no-no in this one? I know DnD is pretty lenient on that but not sure what White Wolf's policy is on that. Usually the base sourcebook is pretty open and the add-on stuff gets protected.
If you can I'll probably join...if not.....well I won't have the materials I need so I couldn't really join then could I? :P

Indeed, I do this.

I'd like to join! When you say the original sourcebook do you mean the World of Darkness Rulebook? (As seen on this page.) I've been interested in the setting for a while but haven't read that book through yet, so as long as this isn't taking place too soon I think I could get through it and make a character in time.

I'd prefer to play through Roll20 since it's pretty much an upgraded IRC, but if anyone's opposed to making an account I'd be fine with IRC.

We're Bay12er's. If there is a bug, we will find it, exploit it, and make a recursive statue out of it. Just look up Planepacked.

As far as I know, they don't like it. So don't look up "World of Darkness core rulebook" on, say, the Piratebay and download it as a torrent. You could use a quickstart, like this one, which I think explains the rules of it and is free.

Yep. That one is just the rules, though, so don't worry about fluff or anything.

FOR ANYONE MAKING A CHARACTER
I highly recommend you use this generator for making PCs. It is really handy and lets everyone be able to see each others sheets.

Would love to try a WoD rpg, especially as a mortal :)

I have played the shadowrun series that ran through summer here, on IRC and Roll20, and I must admit I would prefer Roll20 generally.

Do you guys have an idea about how often it would be ?

Once per week, probably on Sundays or Thursdays (Since I'm free to do stuff on those two days). Still, that's not set in stone.

I'm available on Sundays as long as it doesn't run too late, and I'm contractually obligated to try to enter any tabletop game on Bay 12.

No idea what World of Darkness is or how it works, though.

This has a pretty good explanation of it. Don't read too much though: in the World of Darkness, it's all about secrecy and not knowing a lot.

Okay, so, anyone with a character sheet is considered "in" the game. I'm going to set up a channel for discussing characters and such.

I believe you posted the link for the Call of Cthulu game by mistake.

Funnily enough, of the two World of Darkness systems, the New one is actually the much less Lovecraftian and optimistic of the two. Of course, that's still miles upon miles of depressing.

And I'm at work all day tomorrow... :/
Can you keep my a slot ?
I will obviously work on the character by tomorrow evening :-°

By the way, you are in Ireland (so I guess GMT), I am in France (GMT +1), where are the others ?
As most, I can play easily on sundays, and could be available for evenings on thursdays (cause work).
