My main tank resembles a TD (since we're still working off WoT) it has a strong frontal armor with 5 guns mounted atop near the middle-rear, the back side a ramp of plastic. If the enemy pounds the armor I can take significant abuse, but I always lose my guns far more easily. I'm seriously considering making a taller robo to cover the guns with a lip of armor, and probably sprinkle some headlamps across the surface to make it more difficult to see the turrets in specific. It enjoys covered wheels as well.
Unfortunately, for a flipping attack, you need an enemy who has wheels on the front. If your ramp makes contact with the other guy's hull, then it just collides. I've had several allies attempt to ramp over my backside, which is why I built the ramp! Unfortunately, most have armored fronts, and the armor contacts the ramp and just grinds.
I'm also looking over some of the upgraded hover blades. They get some intense lifting power, are pretty cheap to research, and are smaller than wheels. It should be possible to make hover tanks with covered bottoms that resist getting stuck against terrain, as well as some extra effort (read: helium) to make them actually capable of hover-flight. It won't cross mountains, but it can let you peek over trenches.
One thing to really note: According to the youtubes, firing rate doesn't really improve beyond 4-ish guns. They cycle at the same speed, so you can't make a chaingun. If you have the choice, 4-5 of heavy guns will work best, so you can afford to lose a few and not slow down much.
