Sub branches would be very interesting since it really isn't just Liberal vs Conservative, there are different ideological branches on the political spectrum. Although I think implementing different communist ideals (Such as Marxism, an economic ideal) would truly enhance the satire in the game if implemented correctly.

I don't know if I like the idea of SJWs. That's not really an actual ideological movement, just a bunch of online idiots getting outraged over the pettiest bullshit. They don't really have a distinct ideology. It's basically just liberalism or socialism with a much stronger focus on political correctness. I can certainly think of better ideologies to put in the game: Libertarian Crime Squad, Communist Crime Squad, Anarchist Crime Squad, Fascist Crime Squad, Theocratic Crime Squad, and so on. However, adding new ideologies to the game might hurt the satirically black-and-white view LCS has of America, where it is an eternal struggle between the noble Liberals and the wicked Conservatives. It's a reflection of our two-party system and our heavily polarized country.

It could be a seperate mode, like Nightmare Mode. Perhaps "Civil War" where the black and white nature of LCS is replaced with more faction-based mayhem. Liberals VS Conservatives are still there, but you also have to figure out what you're going to do with the anarchists, the communists, the libertarians, the hipsters, etc...

I found references to a Stalinist Crime Squad in the game files. Maybe there's a plan for a separate game mode? I wouldn't mind something like that, or the Civil War mode you mentioned.

I don't know. It seems like it would be easy to do it subtly. There are more useful things to put in the game, though, like an interface overhaul or something like that. Would you be opposed to race affecting job distribution? Maybe, during lower civil-rights levels, working-class (e.g. sewer worker, construction worker, garbage collector) and underclass (e.g. transient, prostitute, gangster) will have more minorities. As the racial situation in the country improves, the jobs are distributed more evenly, and more minorities have jobs like doctor, engineer, eminent scientist, etc. It would reflect the government's effect on the country.

As per "more and less radical liberals", maybe there should be something like this:

After Congress passes enough liberal laws...

Ashley Doe thinks the LCS has done enough and decides to leave the squad.

A - Persuade him/her to stay in the squad.
B - Persuade him/her to postpone leaving for a few more months. (more likely to succeed, would give time for the leaving member to teach others his/her skills.)
C - Give him/her a thankful farewell. (Decreases possibility that the member would leak anything to law enforcement.)
D - Kill him/her for betraying the Liberal values. (Decreases the squad's Juice greatly, but eliminates possibility of a leak.)


Probably add the possibility of this member returning to the squad later (if the country becomes Conservative once again) or taking a skill-appropriate job and becoming a sleeper.

If race were a thing, small in-game effects demonstrating Conservative prejudice wouldn't necessarily do any harm, so long as it wasn't overdone. Little things, like squads with non-white members having a slightly more difficult time getting into the swanky Conservative private club, or black defendents getting slightly higher sentences. I can acknowledge that if things like that were done subtly and done well, the people who pick up on it would probably arch an eyebrow wryly and say 'Hah, yes, I see what you're doing there'.

But I just really don't think it's worth the bother, because the risks seem to outweigh such a small possible benefit.

Yeah, I agree it's not mostly for putting racial abuse as in the comment I posted in the opening of this thread I suggested to implement race but to provide Conservative with occassions to demonstrate how they are prejudicied.

Yeah, good idea!

But as for your suggestion to disgrunted members becoming sleepers, I think firstly the sleeper position of Students, Child Workers and other states which normally are transient should be worked on, secondly security background checks should keep your Liberals from being employeed in Courthouses, Police station, Nuclear Plant, CIA HQ and thirdly "Join the active LCS" should be disabled for a certain length of time.

I'd argue that LCS does take a side. At C+, Conservatives run death squads that shoot people for loitering, send firemen to eliminate dissenting opinions, place dissidents into re-education camps, etc. Obviously, the game exaggerates this for humor.

Some ideas for implementation:

1) generate profession first, then race.

Each profession would have a "race profile" for the main racial groups. all skills would be profession-based, not race-based. The race profile would have full effect at C+ laws, but as laws become more liberal, the races in each profession equalize with the actual demographic numbers. e.g. at C+, all janitors are black (or maybe 80%), gradually evening out with all other races, and at C+ all lawyers are white, whereas that evens out to the actual population averages at L+.

This would be better than trying to generate profession from race, because new professions are added often, whereas new races probably won't be.

2) decouple specific ethnicities from main racial "groups" linked to professions.

- e.g. you first decided that the Yoga instructor is asian, then, the "asian" group is looked at to determine whether they're Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc (maybe based on real demographics), and a name is generate accordingly. This would allow the game to be easily modded to have a large number of ethnicities without having to have a table cross-referencing every race with every profession: each profession could have a profile which defines the races in terms of the main groups. I'd say likely candidates would be:

- white (english, french, german, italians)
- black
- asian (chinese, japanese, korean)
- amerindian
- jewish (why nobody mention them before)
- muslim (arabs, turks and persians)

I think what i've outlined here would be the simplest model, easily implemented and extendable.

Should probably break Amerindian out by nations: Lakota, Cherokee and Pueblo come to mind immediately.  Senecas have a few casinos here in the Eastern US.  Seminole as well.

Well, my main idea was that each profession just says e.g. "amerindian %", which is the % at C+, then the user can just define a whole lot of name files for each "sub-race".

That way, each profession doesn't have to e.g. hardcode "3% lakota, 4% cherokee ..." etc
