"OUCH! What in the Raven's Queen name is going on!"

Aurel gets up, confused at start.

"My plan? What am I doing in prison?"

A moment of dawning shines upon Aurel.

"Oh. So that's what happened. Did they really think they could take on the werewolf themselves? Fools..."

And I was asking Karl about the plan."

"Something that might make me forget the stupidity I just witnessed."
Weston tosses a gold coin on the bar as if to say "bring it on".

"Well, you two are certainly in a shitpile of trouble. I'm hoping to keep this civil between us and the city guard. Weston, it sounds like you have no idea what was going on. Is that true? Aurel, you were trying to trap the beast, and mistimed when the gates should close. Would you say that is an accurate explanation for your actions?

((Hm... Thought a portcullis was involved at first. Changed what Karl said slightly.))

"Karl. You don't understand. I saw what the beast did to a whole group of what appeared to be muggers. It killed them faster than I could even count them. Those guards and we couldn't have fought it and not faced casualties. I let it escape to the wilderness and close off the gate so it doesn't return. Better than getting it stuck inside the city. Two of our group were missing as well. It would've turned out ugly. I have no reason to lie. This probably saved more than just a few lives. We can go search for it in the morning when we're at full strenght. Not when there's half a chance we'll all get murdered."

The bartender smiles. He takes the gold coin and pours a spirit into a glass and hands you it with the bottle.

((I need to stop posting after midnight.  :-X))

"Of course. My apologies, Cromwell. It's been a long few days recently."

Karl nods. "i see your point, Aurel. Let it maul some deer or a cow, but without an organized effort, it would care little for steel. I'll try to persuade the watch captain to your logic."

((Find the commander of the guards and be diplomatic. Cromwell wasn't actually involved and should be warned and let go. Aurel's actions were in the city's best interests. At worst, he should be fined for interfering in watch business, at best commended for saving lives.

Feel free to roleplay Karl doing this, highmax. I'd love to stick around longer, but I really need to sleep soon))

The guards tell you the captain of the guard is at home asleep. They say that until the captain makes the final verdict, they BOTH will stay inside the cell until farther notice. They then say you too should head home; nothing will let them out for the night. They say the punishment, at worst, will be three days in the cell after the morning verdict, with a fine of 50gp for Aurel for obstructing the law, and Cromwell will probably be released in the morning with a 100gp fine. He says on the bright side, they won't have to pay for lodging and a free meal.

Weston takes the drink, heads back to his room, and (after first locking the door; the mysterious pants thief was still at large) settles down with the bottle, hoping that whatever nonsense he had witnessed would be sorted out by morning.

You take a swing of the drink. (? vs 14) You feel really drunk. (7+3 vs ?) You pass out. Symon sees Thyra shake her head as he drops from his seat and collapses, knocking over the bar stools around him. The barkeep picks him up and drags him up the stairs after he takes 10gp for the trip. You now have 43gp left.
