You already stole all his gold and that note, so the only thing worthwhile is the widow's knife and the shirt off his back. You take the red cloak and the knife and leave the guy there. You eventually come to find the cart by following the whinnying of the horse and see Grot looks a little different; he appears more confident. The party has reunited.
