Good, it's settled then, curses out. :)
And Nienhaus, I really appreciate what you're doing!

I have absolutely no understanding of the difference between Curses and the other thingy so just go with whatever will deliver to us a better game faster!

I know it might not be important to you, but different people have different tastes in thing, that's why I try to provide as many features as I possibly can while keeping everything uniform and tidy.

I'm still trying to save the curses renderer, although it looks like effort in vain.. even if I keep it it'll be really slow simply due to the sheer number of cells it has to check each frame just to be able to draw ramps correctly (since it can't render multiple layers at a time)

So yeah, curses is definitely going to go away. I might keep the code around if anyone feels like working on it later though.

Edit:

Here's what the curses renderer looks like at the moment:

I think I'll just leave it this way for now.

Well, I couldn't not share this! I was testing map chunk generation again after I added a new spatial hash mechanism and I came across this while exploring a mountainous region:

You see, this is adjacent to a very steep mountain ridge and surrounded by more mountain, so perhaps the universe is not as random as I thought.

Now I'm forced to to start believing in signs.. I'm still shocked.

P.S: If you're not sure what I'm talking about, try to google "moon door" and you'll know what I mean.

What's so weird about wanting to build a second Wall to keep out the filthy Southerners, huh? :P

Nothing, it just unnerves me when someone mentions building in this game. I'm terrified of the prospect.
The amount of coding required to reach such a stage is unfathomable to me. Only the God of Blood knows how Toady did it.

Nope, it's actually fine. I'm adding building in the sense of UrW building, where you can build a lodge or something and live as a hermit. Actually you'll be able to build as big as you like.
Just no "Lordship mode" in the foreseeable future, although I may have plans for that as well. I've got the ground work covered for the most part anyway.

Excellent. I plan on there being a very high Wall somewhere.

That said, is there going to be magic ingame?

Well, very subtly so. I plan to follow the novels to the letter. So I'll keep that to a minimum.

If you're asking if you'll be able to hurl fireballs at enemies or summon a creature then definitely no; but the framework will allow modders to add that stuff later if so they wish. Other than that the game will be as mundane as it can possibly be.

If you play as a Skinchanger or a Priest of R'hllor you'll get special abilities but that's about it I think, I might even add Warlocks from Qarth but that's TBD.

All right!
Wait, what did the Warlocks even do besides turning into evil ghosts?

Exactly! That's why I'm very hesitant to add them at all.

Dammit GRRM why you leave warlocks vague.
Well, they do have illusion magic.
