Arrrgh, too late to join in?  Shall lurk from the sidelines instead, then.  :D

(Alternately, would love to join the black team, but not quite sure how... if they will take me...)

Icefire, may I join your team?

you can join. I mainly switched teams because I liked the other kind of creature better. just remember this is a dictatorship and my word is law I've already voted this time, next time we'll begin considering other options.

Turns out it costs 15EP to get sticky seeds (not that we have predator populations anyway).  I might suggest migration or biodiversity this turn for the Black Alga.  I'm inclined to say Migration, get us out there and ready for predation.

Migration it is then. I'll pick one of the adjacent water areas, likely the warmer one.

You know what the most common animals in the world are? Beetles. You know what their predators are? Things like lizards, frogs, some birds...all suffering from worries of becoming endangered or extinct, in many species.
Mice are eaten by cats. Guess which of those is more common?
Way back in the late Triassic, the synapsid predators died off, making way for a little evolutionary fad known as Dinosauria.
Once upon a time, lions, tigers, bears, and so forth ate humans. Now we are among the most common mammals on the planet, the most common non-rodent mammal for certain, and those big predators are in danger of becoming extinct, thanks to us.
Predators are overrated.

That's why I'll be making an entire ecosystem out of my primary creatures different life stages (larvae, egg, etc)! You guys will be stuck on the sidelines as prey for the adults, which feed will feed on the adolescents, which will feed on the larvae which will use photosynthesis!

Not really. The only way you guys could mess it up would be if you replaced one of the stages, which wouldn't really be a problem since it can just be skipped. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

...How do you skip a stage in your life cycle?!?

Anyways, there are lots of other ways we could derail your plans. Predation. Competition. Forest growth, preventing the larvae from photosynthesizing. Parasites. Natural disasters. The possibilities are endless...and given your arrogance, I won't mind using them.

Only thing I currently don't understand is how do you know how much EP you have and track that number? Is it listed somewhere and I'm just missing it?

The basics is:

Total BD of all populations minus idle malus plus Symbiosis increases

How do you skip a stage in your life cycle? Quite easily in fact. Instead of developing larvae -> adolescent -> adult you just go larvae -> adult or adolescent -> adult.

As to your second paragraph which is tantamount to a declaration of war... bring it on.
