Theming a fortress after its gods

So I decided I wanted to start a Necropolis fortress. The idea is that I will settle near a necromancer's tower, and recover and properly bury Dwarf Corpse corpses. Further, I decided I'd keep genning worlds until I got a civilization with a god of death and at least one other thing, and theme the necropolis after the god's other domain. In a previous world, for example, I had a goddess of death and the sea; so I would fill each tomb with seawater, or allow the sea to flood each completely-filled level of the necropolis, etc.

So here's my problem. The first god of death I generated is a god of Death and Forgiveness.

How the heck am I supposed to theme a necropolis after forgiveness?

Don't murder elves.
Or better, kill them fast and bury them afterwards.

Well, that sounds like a nice idea. Bury your enemies with all the honors that dwarves receive. And don't make individual sections "goblins here, cheesemakers here, elves here" - everyone is equal from the perspective of death, eh?

This reminds me of an idea for a succession fort. The fort is founded on top of a lair tagged fortress built beforehand, preferably by a different race, in a reanimating biome, with all of their dead sealed in pockets underground. When the new inhabitants arrive there's a fully furnished castle just waiting to protect them from the undead on the surface, but open the wrong door....

Well, that sounds like a nice idea. Bury your enemies with all the honors that dwarves receive. And don't make individual sections "goblins here, cheesemakers here, elves here" - everyone is equal from the perspective of death, eh?

I was thinking of something like that, but it turns out you can't assign coffins to non-civilization members unless they're dwarves. And you can't make memorials to them unless they're historical figures, which since I'm planning on putting this fortress near a Tower, would be only ~50% of them.

I was thinking of something like that, but it turns out you can't assign coffins to non-civilization members unless they're dwarves. And you can't make memorials to them unless they're historical figures, which since I'm planning on putting this fortress near a Tower, would be only ~50% of them.
For the non-historical figures, maybe you could just put them on an underground refuse stockpile, with engraved walls, golden statues and more decorations? or just let them kill one of your dwarfs/caravan guards so they become historical figures, allthough this would cost you a ton of dwarfs.

I ended up just rerolling  :-\ The next god of death I got was also the god of rebirth, war, fortresses, and metals. I'll be constructing my necropolis within the fortress levels instead of separate from it, using only sarcophagi, creating all tombs as groups of ten coffins, and including a (metal) armor stand and weapon rack in each tomb for the afterlife. :)

Going with the rebirth aspect, you could make all of them slabs, and then allow a necromancer to reanimate all the corpses on each level, after it was full. Then, for war, you could release war dogs into the tombs so that they battle the zombies!

Personally for the fortresses aspect I'd build a duplicate fort near the real one but with each 'bedroom' being a tomb instead.

Rebirth could safely, at risk of being elfish, be tombs alongside farms. Fortresses, make the fortress as you normally would, but design the outside to be similar to a medieval castle. War can follow with your castle, kill all who oppose. Metals, well, furniture and stuff :P

I apologise for the slight necro, but this thread seems similar enough to the one I was going to make, so I figured I could just post here.

I recently genned a new world, and began a fort named "The Temple of Worth". Checking my gods, I found two that interest me; Urvad the Walled Gates (goddess of boundaries), and Ritas (goddess of fortresses and mist).
Deciding to theme my fort after them (and build the whole thing as a monument in their names, as I figure there is no greater monument to a god of fortresses than a Fort that's also a temple) , I am now curious on how to do so. I figure for fortresses and boundaries would be a simple as building an aboveground fort with large areas of segmented land and high/thick walls, but after seeing this thread I figure I could ask for other peoples ideas on the matter.

 I also have the typical god of mountains/minerals/the earth, and "Ral the Jade Price", our nicely named god of wealth and trade, who is a lower priority (from a role-play perspective), who I might build  small shrine for, if I have any spare materials.

As for the topic, for a goddess of mist making mist-creating waterfalls would be a nice touch.

For the goddess of boundaries, I'd probably build a big wall around the fortress and then put masterwork statues of that goddess on as the top layer of that wall. Bonus dwarf points for using statues of the boundary-goddess instead of walls around your dining room, bedrooms, etc.

I second Manveru on the mistfortress. Build a pump stack to the top of your fortress and let it mist all over statues of your goddess.

Statues of the tradegod around the depot and along the path to the trade depot. Build the trade depot (and if you can, the road) out of something really valuable, like gold or platinum or aluminum.

I have a bit of a problem with my fortress. There's a god of dawn, two goddesses of dusk, and a god of painting. (It's the biggest pantheon). I was hoping to do something for each of my gods, so I think I may have to reroll again. Seriously - painting? Dawn? Two dusks? A dawn-and-dusk brother and sister sort of combo would make sense, but what am I supposed to do with two goddesses of dusk-and-nothing-else?

Alternatively, have your prison temple include a special "birthing room" for pregnant mothers, wait for the child to be born, then either flood the room with magma or reveal the floor to be retracting bridges, below which are flaming cavern trees. Let there be some kind of escape route, but make it difficult to follow.

Only the strongest and mode fire-resistant get to grow up in this fortress.
