Fable
Halo 2
Too old. They weren't even available for the Xbox 360 / PS3!
False, thanks to the wonders of backwards compatibility. I was playing Halo 2 multiplayer on my 360 up until the day when they finally shut the servers down.

Incidentally, Halo 2 would be my pick. It was pretty much singlehandedly responsible for kickstarting (damn it, there's another good turn of phrase ruined forever) online console multiplayer, which is one of the most important things in the history of console gaming.

If we're going to limit it to games first released on 360/PS3...

Hm. Well, purely in terms of hours played and the impact on my life, Halo 3 without a doubt. My closest circle of friends in secondary school were the people I played it with. Fallout 3 certainly deserves a mention, despite the problems with it. Oblivion as well, even if it was far better with modding. Dark Souls is probably my first runner-up. Mirror's Edge was pretty great as well.

Honestly, and I'm really trying to put this kindly, but... IMO DA:O was the signal that Bioware had long since run out of the sort of creative juices that were responsible for gems like Baldur's Gate and KOTOR. Dragon Age was perhaps the worst "good" RPG or AAA title I have ever had the misfortune to play. Most of the time when I stop playing a game, it is because I've burned out. When I stopped playing DA:O, it was because of a mixture of shock that it was really that terrible and shock that I wasted money on it. I don't think anything in a game has ever pissed me off as much as the illusion of choice & freedom woven into the very fabric of it.

lol you know it has truly been a quality generation when bethesda's and bioware's turds are considered highlights...

Consolized shooters are slow generic snoozefests, and as for the consolized RPGs... yeah thanks but no fucking thanks. So that pretty much just leaves platformers for me to enjoy. And I think the most enjoyable platformer I played this generation was Rayman Origins. Straightforward gameplay, beautiful art, and frantic multiplayer coop. What's not to love?

I'm gonna go with GTAV or Disgaea 4. Dark Souls and Dragon's Dogma as honorable mentions.

Why not Spelunky? Do you not like roguelikes?

Viva Pinata and it's sequel, building a garden in those games is so fun and relaxing as long as you don't just plow through the gardening handbook like a checklist to be completed.

Not sure if I'd say they're the best, but I'd say that Deadly Creatures, Monster Hunter Tri, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and Little King Story all stand out for me.

...Way more than anything else mentioned here yet, except The Last of Us, which I haven't acquainted myself with yet.

I'd say Valkyria Chronicles for me.

Close second being Dark Souls.

For me, it's either Dark Cloud 2 or the remake of Romancing Saga. I spent hundreds of hours in both of those games and I have yet to beat Romancing Saga. It took me years to beat Dark Cloud 2. :/

I'm gonna go a little different and pick a portable console game.  The world ends with you is just an amazing game that deserves a ton of credit.  (Ignore the shoddy ios port.)

The last story for the wii scores really high for me at the moment. It's the first 3D JRPG that managed to capture me completely.
Chromehounds was crazy fun too, although I was really disappointed that the servers shut down 3 days before I wanted to go online. They really should make a sequel...

Sweet geez, you people have new stuff.

I haven't played on a console since Kingdom Hearts 2 and Rouge Trooper.

Well the thread did specify of "the generation" so I assumed they meant ps3/360/~~wiihihihi~~

Still, if it was of all time it would probably be a toss up between Demon's Souls, Ocarina of Time, Zelda 2: The adventure of Link (screw you, I loved it) and Super Mario 3.
