Not currently, I'm afraid, though perhaps in a future version.

You could always become a necromancer, kill the a civilization's king and court, and summon them as your zombie subjects. If you're into that.

You could bodyswap with the king then go adventuring.

You could slay the king,"usurp" his throne, and customize your profession to "King".

Slay the king, butcher him and wear his skin.

Of course you can.

Step 1: Wait for next version.

Step 2: Generate a world, look for a civ with a single queen.

Step 2: Make a fortress, wait until the queen comes. Retire the fortress

Step 3: Make an adventurer, retire in the fortress.

Step 4: Lock the adventurer and the queen in a room with beds, booze and food.

Step 5: ???

Step 6: Adventurer King, ready to unretire.

(Note: There are several ways to make this easier with DfHack, but probably not so amusing.

to be a king in adventure mode you need to do a few things
one set up a diplomatic system where you assign a king which can be done if you fiddle around with the creature raws mountain entity,
two get you adventurer into a fort
three boot out the formal king with the new king which is your adventurer.
four congrats now you got a silly new title added to your playable character but currently has no real use outside of fort mode.

Step 4: Lock the adventurer and the queen in a room with beds, booze and food.

this bit here kinda just makes you a Queen/king consort

I know, but i did't want to ruin the joke. Plus my system can be done whitout modding/DFhack.

Slay the king, butcher him and wear his skin.

This is actually a WONDERFUL idea! All you need is a mod that lets you craft leather items in adventure mode; after that you kill the king, making sure to cut him into several parts so when you wait till you're hungry enough to butcher a sentient you'll get several leathers out of him. Then just collect the whole series; king leather hood (even better if you can make a mask), king leather shirt and king leather trousers! That would make a nice adventure mode challenge.

I've heard that butchering sentients is currently bugged and impossible. I've never tested it, though, so I could be wrong.

You can, it's just that there is a limitation in place. To butcher sentients in adventure mode, you have to be starving. Your civ ethics aren't considered either, so a goblin will not be allowed to butcher sentients in adventure mode, for example.

it might be best to just send the leather equipment to fortress mode and then have some dorfs make the equipment, or will they not do that?

Dwarves will happily craft things with leather and bones from sentient beings, but only a starving adventurer can do the butchering. You could still drop the leathers on an empty site and build a fortress there, I think.

It is possible to take a control of NPC with DFHack. I once took control of my King (fort mode) after hfs invasion and escaped the fortress. It works in adv. mode, too. The command was something like "adv-bodyswap".

You can also use DFHack to make a dwarf of your choice monarch. (Including retired adventurers).
