The community college classes that I've been taking in addition to my high school curriculum started in mid-August. It's not uncommon in the public universities in my state.
Pfff you late westerners starting school a whole 6 months after we start. :P
Or do we start 6 months before you?

I'd say we start both earlier and later, depending on what you mean.

Also, yes, education seems to be declining as of late.
This is a natural but faulty impression caused by no points of reference; after all, you have only gone through school once, at one particular moment in history. I am also not in a position to say. A teacher, perhaps.

This is easy. Americans are the focal point of the world, therefore everything is based around that perspective. It's all relative to the speaker.

To this speaker, the 2nd term will not be a thought in my head till Christmas.

Most electives (in fact, pretty much everything in Grade 10 other than French) take a term instead of a semester.

In college, sometimes electives seem to take two terms. Basically, it's the same as a semester, but you're paying twice.

But you get also the point of reference of your parents' education. And their parents' education. You talk wih them don't you?
Therefore it could be opinion of more people. The accepted thing is that education got a lot better between my grandparents' and parents' time, but then it really declined (in my little european country that is).

Also easily inaccurate. People have a tendency to white-wash things in their memory, and things can take on a much better appearance in retrospect when you aren't experiencing the shitty parts. Plus, your parents also went through school at a specific time, and a line graph with two points is no line graph at all, not at all statistically significant.

Now Polls maybe, they could give an answer. Especially one that is repeated every year for some time.

Besides, your parents and grandparents have had some time to assume a generally human shape after finishing their education. Maybe the reason they don't argue for the virtues of the word "shitnipples" is the fact that they're responsible adults, not because their education was better than that of the current generation.

When does winter break start for most people? December 21st here, which is actually a weekend. The last day is January 4th.

Same here. U.S.?
Well, my community college courses end (technically) on the 16th, but we have our finals on the 11th. My last day of high school is the 20th.
College starts up again on the 13th of January, but high school is the 6th.

Bluh. No days off to study for exams this year. Funnily enough, this means English class will last pass the final exam.

Way to not make sense, Canadian school system.
