Upon hearing the knocking, I put my knives away and speak, stepping out of the corner as I do so.
"Hello? Who's there?"

Cecil mumbles to himself about foreigners or something, and continues at trying to make a fire.

Make that fire!

"If the decision were up to men and women of sense and reason, few wars would occur at all," Eh Ah said, then paused. "But I am glad that you did volunteer. I am of the opinion that wars could use more good people. After all, if you hadn't volunteered, I would very likely have been dead back there. Rejoice, as your decisions have saved a life."
She seems to relax a little bit and even gives a smile smile, which fades quickly. "Thank you, but I need to find a way out. For my family, anyways. I don't want them to have to live with the Empire." She looks down the alley and then back at you. "If... if I do come back here, and I find a way out for my family... will you help me bring my family here? This is as far away from the mainland Empire that I can hope to get without escaping the Empire entirely."

Notice: I will be gone for about 3 to 4 days this weekend. If I'm lucky I'll get internet and still be able to RtD, but for now assume that I'll be gone for this weekend. Have fun everyone!

"Do you think moving your family to a war-torn isle under the active occupation of a foreign power would be best for them, and that it would decrease their life's suffering or, indeed, make them better people? It is easy to view this place as an oasis of innocence in a cruel world, I am sure, but, even if this was true, do you think it would last under the current circumstances? These are things to consider before making such important decisions that affect not only yourself, but others as well," Eh Ah said earnestly.

Anna hesitates before speaking. "You don't know how cruel the Theyin Empire is, do you? My family will die young in the middle Empire. They won't survive there. I can't escape the Empire because then they would torture my family for generations. The best choice I have is here, because this is where I am stationed and they don't have many security measures in place here yet. Anywhere else and the Empire will still crush them." Her eyes solidify her intent to get her family out of the mainland Empire.

"I don't know anything at all. I was just watching the sea when somebody started to bomb the general vicinity of my home. I do question the longevity of an empire that seems based on tyranny, however. Why would your family die?"

Spoiler: OOC (click to show/hide)

"Um, I'm a little lost, could you help me find somewhere to rest for the night?"

I sigh,
"Me too, Come on in, there's no door but we can block the doorway with the table. It'll be warmer with an extra person in the room."
I step aside and survey the speaker, looking for weapons or signs of danger.

"Thanks. I appreciate it. Um... I need to step out for a second, I've got something that I left outside. I'll be right back."
Go retrieve the kitten, then head back inside.

Step into the doorway as he leaves, and watch where he goes and what he retrieves. tilt my head to the side when I see that he's getting a kitten, but don't comment on it. when he comes back, upend the table and use it to block the doorway, then settle down on one side of the cabin, my back to the wall where I can see the entire room without moving, and get some rest, but wait to actually fall asleep until my cabinmate settles down as well. Keep an eye on him as he moves around, and take note of any weapons and how he moves, if he keeps his body balanced at all times like a martial artist.

((I just realized that like my entire inventory consists of a kitten and the clothes I'm wearing, and I have practically no combat skill at all.))

Sit down somewhere rather cozy, and make sure the kitten is well.

"Have you been experiencing anything... Odd? Lately? Like unusual animals, or maybe strange voices?"
